This is really happening to me!

Ok I have been a lurker for the past 3 years now I am on way to the other size.  Finally going to do this for me and my boys.  I have went from my consultation the end of January and had all of testing done during Feb and had my chest x-ray the first weekend of March.  Being a single mom I only have two weekend a month free for adult stuff.  So I was able to get it all done.  So I call the doctor's office on Wednesday to see if they received my results and the NP called back within an hour and it was there.  By Friday they called and said that I was approved.  I was just in shock.   I had to pick a surgery date.  I have to be honest and say that I didn't tell my mom until Monday night.  It was probably the hardest thing I had to do.

Well now I am on the track.  Starting to research different types of protein shakes and cutting out the sugar based drinks.  And starting to practice chewing slowly and drinking a sip and waiting.  I am trying to re-train my body and mind.  A very good friend that had the surgery a couple of years ago told me something very interesting.  They operated on your belly not your mind and that is constantly going through my head.

Well thanks for letting me tell my story and I would welcome any thoughts, friends and information that anyone would like to share.

My surgery date is May 14th.

Hope to hear from the pre-op and post op friends.

Jenn, congrats! And welcome. When I began my journey, it was for me and my boys also. I was tired of not feeling like I could interact with them like I wanted to. Now I am over 4 years out, have another child and a bun in the oven. I feel great (other than preggo stuff! LOL) and am 100% happy I took that journey.

Best of luck and hang around here. there are alot of great people here.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

Congratulations on the surgery date.  It is a great opportunity to begin a healthier life.  The work is hard, but so worth it.  I can tribute my success to several things:  the continued support and friendship from all the wonderful friends I have met on this board and at meetings, daily visits to the gym, and constantly knowing that it is my decisions that will keep me successful on this life long journey.  I know that until the day I die I am the one who is responsible for maintaining the weight loss.  My pouch  must be cherished and treated with respect.

Good luck to you.

Congratulations Jenn and welcome!! Sounds like you're getting everything together, including yourself, for your surgery. We're all here to support you and try to answer all of those questions you're going to have along the way.

wouldn't go crazy with the protein shakes right now because chances are after your surgery your tastes are going to change a lot, and what you might like now you'll hate post. But it is good to prepare yourself by cutting out the sugar and caffeine and things you don't need and can't have post surgery - good planning!

Congrats on getting a date Jenn. Best of luck to you... glad to see you stopped lurking and joined in. I know what that's like, I lurked for awhile myself.

Huge move telling your mom; hope she is happy for you.

Please ask any questions you might have and I know the folks on here (myself included) will help you out the best we can.
