prayers/thoughts needed

Please if you could keep both my dad and sister in your thoughts/prayers today.

My sister is in the hospital today having an anterior cervical discectomy to remove pressure on nerves from disc herniations.  She will proabably be in the hospital for  a few days and then recovery at home for at least 6 weeks.

Due to this, she does not know what they found on my dad's ultrasound yesterday.

Dad is still in the hospital with his pancreas issues.  They did the ultrasound yesterday and found a mass on his pancreas.  They are doing a biopsy and hopefully we'll get the results today.  He was really not himself yesterday and I am hoping it was just because of the anesthesia and gas from them going in.  Hopefully, the mass will turn out to be non-cancerous, but after doing some research online, it seems as if it is more likely to be cancer.    They may end up removing his pancreas and giving him some sort of med to replace its function.   I don't really understand everything that is going on, but hope to get good news today.  He was hoping to go home today.  But, doesn't look like that is going to happen.'

Please, just keep them both in your thoughts today.  They need it, as do I.

Lisa - Prayers and positive thoughts headed out for you and your family!!!!

Pancreatic cancer is a tough one - when they take your pancreas it essentialy makes you diabetic (from what I remember) so I would imagine that he'd have to be on insulin - a small trade off for your health. I think that pancreatitis can also be something along those lines.

If you need anything just call!!!!!

*hugs*

He has actually had pancreatitis for about 13 years and has been on insulin as a result of that.  From what I understand the pancreatitis is probably what led to this mass.

I am definately thinking of you, your sister and your dad. I understand the feeling of "not knowing" and the waiting game. It's hard and worrisome.

I hope and pray for a perfect surgery for your sis and and healthy recovery.

And I hope and pray for good results from the pancreatic biopsy.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

Normally, I would be less concerned about my sister, but she is super morbidly obese, so that puts her at greater risk in the surgery.  Maybe after this, I can convince her to have WLS.

Hi Lisa - big, big hugs coming your way. Sounds like your sister is going to be fine - just a long recovery time - hope the surgery gives her some relief - I've never had back problems myself but I know they can cause a great deal of pain and discomfort for people.

Big giant hugs and many prayers for your dad -- am praying that the mass is benign and he will come out of this feeling better. On Tuesday I take my mom to the oncologist to get the results of the biopsy she had last week and we're 99% certain it is going to be cancerous, just don't know to what extent or what type of treatment they're going to recommend.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers all day - Kathy

Thanks a lot Kathy.

I'll think about your mom, too.  It's so hard to deal with family issues and still focus on your own life.

I will say a Mishebeirach for both of them - please let me know their name - I can also put them on our synagogue's list for Friday night services if you would like me to - otherwise I will just say it privately for them.  I know how difficult it is to watch our family members get sick and totally feel helpless - but friendship and support will help you and your family through this difficult time!

All my love and strength!

Steffi :)

Thanks Stef..

Dad is Yisrael Hersh ben Batsheva (Robert Friedman)
Sister is Chaya bat Yaina (Leslie Friedman)   not sure if I'm spelling Yaina right in Engli****'s female version of Jonah--yud, nun, hay

I have them on the list at our synagogue for Thursday and Saturday mornings, but it can't hurt to add them wherever possible.
