Help Pregnant and not allowed to gain weight

When I had Lorelei I was 341 pounds... I was told not to gain weight with her as well... I dropped to 310 and by the time I had her I was back to 340... and during all of that time it was the same thing... I was on a VERY strict diet... I had GD and was on inslin shots 2 times a day and checking my blood sugars 6 times a day... I had NST every week from week 24 till the end... I had US done every 2 weeks to keep everything in check... at the end... they were twice a week...

My OB's practice has 100s and 100s of women through their doors that have had all kinds of WLS... each one is treated differently... I'm 5'2" with basically no torso... which is another reason for no gain... also for me no baby will ever come out the "normal" way... I will HAVE to have another c-section- which means they will have to tap my fat up so they can do the c-section... and that is ooohhh so much fun... not!  I have no choice... I also have another 80+ pounds to reach my goal weight... so even at the start of my pregnancy at 211 without having gastric bypass and my other pass history... I would of still ended up with a high risk doc because of being so fat still... and would of been told the same thing... don't gain weight...

Both my main OB and my high risk docs have gotten a number of awards and what nots docs get for how they take care of their patients... i like all of the nurses but one... and she is just a young straight of 2 year nursing school twit... Liz has heard me rant on her lol... but the main thing is I know my doc is reading up on things all the time about WLS and pregnancy... we have talked about the new articles that he has read etc... when I was working out we changed my workouts because of what he read about c-sections/wls and then pregnancy... after that change some of the discomfort I was feeling tummy wise went away... they also came up with a much better way of looking for GD... so instead of drinking that nasty sugar drink... I fast, draw blood, eat and retest an hour later... both my OB and high risk doc like the results that have seen from it they are thinking of doing this style of test more... fewer chances of false readings...

So, while you don't think he is right... I do... don' get me wrong I was shocked about the no gain rule and the 2000 calorie diet... but you know what... I am still loosing weight (in other areas of my body...) and the baby is healthy and right on track... as of the last US... dead on for lenght and perfectly avg for weight... so perfect... and that right there is the most important thing... this baby won't be coming and having to get it's blood sugar tested every hour for the 1st 24 hours or after every feeding to see if she has diabeties like Lorelei had to get done... etc...

So, stop freaking her out about what her doctor said... it is really the norm now...

and btw- my OB and High risk doc helped me to get gastric bypass... both wrote letters to my insurance company explaining in great detail why I needed and then listed off all the reasons... by the end my OB's letter was almost 6 pages long and the high risk was even longer... so they do know what they are talking about... because in those letters I learned a lot of things that I had never heard about from all my research...

I hear you Shannon, but I am going to share my exerience too. I think that's allowed. She asked for advice, and my advice it that based on my experience as an overwight high risk advanced maternal age pregnant person (recently at that) this was not the direction I received from my highly qualifed OB.

With that said, Lucy appears to be 2 years out from RNY and while I cannot assume how much she weighs... I'm going to guess it's not 300+ pounds. Perhaps if she is then yes I have no experience with what a Dr. might reccommend.

I think as others have said, you have to follow your own instincts. If for ME my physician ordered me to gain no weight, I'd be weary that that alone is the paramount concern for me while pregnant.

Thanks for allowing me to share.

The poster is 3 years out from surgery. Not 6-18 months. If she is at goal, and that far out, not gaining any weight sounds absurd!!!!

Approx 8-10 pounds is added just for the baby, amniotic fluid, and placenta. If she is to gain NO weight, then her own body must lose that much weight to compensate? That makes absolutely no sense to me!

Of course gaining weight because you are scarfing down doritos, tastycakes, and french fries is ALL wrong. But eating healthy foods and getting vitamins in is what is most important and you are bound to gain some weight in 36-40 weeks of pregnancy.

The only way I could understand not gaining, is if you are still not done losing. Because you body kind of balances itself out.
