Julie - I never had to do it pre-op but I did 21 days post-op - think of it like medicine. How many diets have you done in the past? While we weren't successful at them (hence why we are where we are! lol) it is ONLY 8 more days! just over a week! You CAN do it! You HAVE to do it! lol

humm are you on full liquids or clear liquids? Are things like yogurt allowed?

Clear liquid, If it was full liquids I think I might be OK. Full book on recipes for full liquids. I just made dinner for the family and I'm thinking that I might go crazy! I'm making things for them that I dont like but even that right now is looking mighty good!

That HAS to be hard!! I would make a big pot of home made chicken broth and beef broth - that is just me - I added tons of veggies into it  and then strained it - I felt better that i could cook and eat something.

I think that if I had a family to cook for - I would spend saturday or one day in the kitchen and cook a ton of stuff and stick it in the freezer, then have your hubby/so etc just pop it in the microwave at dinner time so you could separate yourself from food a bit.

Oh one of my favorites - I made french onion soup and strained it -make or buy beef broth - slice or chop an onion or 2, a few cloves of garlic and sautee in a bit of olive oil until they are caramalzied - do this on a low temperature, it will take a while. Add some dry time or a spring of fresh along with the beef broth, salt and pepper and a few dashed of worsteshire sauce. Simmer for 1/2 hour. Then just strain it and enjoy! I LOVED this and still do it when I am not feeling well.

I do similar with chicken broth - take pieces of chicken (I use what ever is cheap - wings, thighs etc) boil them in water for hours with garlic, onions, salt, pepper, carrots, celery - then strain and eat.

These felt a bit more "substantial" to me because they weren't just plain flavorless broth

Hope this helps!

Hi Julie,

It takes sheer determination. I can tell you that the first 3 days are the hardest. Around day 4 it physically gets better but is still difficult. I went to bed very early to disconnect from feeling hungry and deprived. I was a bit grouchy an not fun to be around. It is all worth it though. You will drop about 10-15 pounds and Dr. Boe will be very happy. Isn't he a doll? :o)

Good luck, you can do it!

Hi Julie,
I had my surgery on Sept 14th and had to do a two week liquid diet. My doc had me on 5 cans of low carb slim fast a day, and then to suppliment I could have all the broth I wanted, as well as other clear liquids.

I found drinking a lot of water and decaf tea was really helpful for me. I had a bottle of water or filled a container with Decaf tea and had it with me constantly. Those two things were my saving grace, they helped in keeping me full, but the down side was the many races to the ladies room, boy did I ever wish that were closer to my desk during those two weeks.

Good luck with the liquid diet

I only got through it because I HAD to. I am not sure what yours includes. Mine was solely SF Carnation Instant Breakfast and water. That's it.

How I got through it? I have no idea. I just did. I cried a few times, was REALLY moody and not too pleasant to be around. But......I mustered through it. And you can too!

Hang in there!

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

Take it one day at a time. I'll admit, I suffered. I was a beatch! I cried. I pouted. I was a BIG baby. It's harder than post op because you aren't sick and you ARE hungry. But you can do it! Keep busy. I had a project planned every day. Cleaning drawers, closets, etc. And I walked . . . i went to bed early just to end the day.  I also told my DH I would NOT be cooking for 8 days. I just couldn't stand it if I had to.

Liquids: SF jello, SF popsicles (made me feel like I could chew), clear broth (saved me from all the other sweet stuff), diet iced tea, decaff coffee, apple juice, white grape juice, water with lemon, crystal light, Italian ice, sugar free candies.

Good luck. Just think how much weight you will lose. I lost 10 lbs in 8 days. Yeah it's all water, but it's an ego boost!
