MAJOR hot flashes
So since losing weight I have been pretty constantly freezing to the core. That I expected. What I didn't expect was the crazy MAJOR hot flashes. I had a hysterectomy in 2003 and the hot flashes I had from that are nothing compared to the ones I am having now. They usually start about 4 to 5 in the morning and let up about 10 to 11. So what do you think? Is this a hormonal imbalance thing brought on by rapid weight loss? Or possibly my blood sugar falling too low? I have always run on the low side with blood sugars. This morning I got up because they were so bad, but I was also dizzy and tingly all over. I have also been sick most of the week with sore throat, sinus congestion, yada yada yada. but all my symptoms from that are pretty much gone. I did check my temp and it was normal. I have an appointment for Dec. 17 th for my 9 month follow up so I will ask him about it then, just thought you guys might have some ideas too. Thanks. Belinda
Belinda,
No doctor here, but a wild stab at this could be a multitude of stuff going on. Fat stores estrogen and losing weight releases it, so that might account for some of what you are experiencing, but if you had blood sugar issues prior to WLS, you may be experiencing what a lot of us do post-WLS, which is when not getting in enough protein, especially when we are partaking any carbs, it causing a sometimes severe dip in blood sugar. So my suggestion would be to be sure that you have a "small" amount of protein within a short while of going to bed, maybe a 100 calorie pack of almonds or some such thing. Also, there is a good chance that because you are not feeling well, that could be wrecking havo with your body, be sure you are getting your decaf fluids in and meeting your protein goals. . .
Hope you feel better in a flash

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen

I get "wooshes" I call them of heat, then I break out in a sweat, sometimes get dizzy or lightheaded and feel like I'm slurring and the nerve endings in my body feel all electrified when I'm going really low and I gotta sit down before I fall down. For me, that's low blood sugar and I check it with my glucometer and it's usually in the 60's so I know what it is. I eat some yogurt, or watered down juice or milk; something with enough sugars in it to elevate me but not enough to sicken me. Only happened a couple times. It is typical for diabetics to have lows around 4-6 in the morning.
