Re-intro!

Just though I would post a re-intro on my state board since my time is winding down and my nerves/emotions are winding up! lol!

I am Melanie, I am 36 and I live in Montgomery County with my 4 kids, Dante the wondermutt (our golden retriever) and of course my awesome husband. We are avid motorcycle enthusiasts as we both ride, we love to vacation in Ft. Desoto/St Petersburg Florida, we adore the outdoors, the beach and anything motor related! lol You will have to get used to my goofy personality, I assure you I am perfectly normal, just maybe a bit "eccentric" at times. lmao But hey, whatever works, right? >wink< I am just very excited today, after hearing the good news that the urologist will see me Monday. There was a very real possibility that I would not be able to get in and therefore surgery would have to be put off a few weeks. Could still happen that way but I am one step closer then I was yesterday!

Last time I posted I was still going through the motions for surgery but I have since completed all my testing, gotten my approval, date, pre-op stuff and I'm pretty much all set to go! I did however run into one small unforeseen problem that hopefully will be worked out by Monday morning. I have a 6mm kidney stone in my right kidney and Dr. B wants me to have the urologists clearance before we go ahead with surgery due to the risk of dehydration/lack of fluids and possible kidney obstruction caused by the stone should it decide to bounce around in there and cause more grief.

I did start my pre-op diet today though! Not so bad so far! I think I can handle this! lol Ask me again in 2 days to see if my mind had changed... hahah

Anyhow, it's nice to meet you all and I look forward to meeting some new friends with whom I might be able to lean on through this incredible time in my life. The nerves and emotions are so overwhelmig at times... and I have not even really begun this journey!

Melanie,

Glad you reintroduced yourself and hope that everything goes well with the urologist.  The journey is easier with friends who understand the ride.  So strap in and get ready for this wild ride.  There are many of us here who will lend a friendly hand when you need it, whether for holding or pushing you through a hurdle.  Now take pictures every month and measurements too, because it will all make sense somewhere down the line. . .

Best wishes as you get closer to joining us on the Loser's Bench.

Laureen

Thank you so, so much for the welcome Laureen!

I am very excited (as if you couldn't tell lol) but also very nervous and afraid! I assume it is all very normal but like all pre-ops I can't help but wonder if I will be one of the uncomplicated cases.

I have begun a blog on Blogger but made it private for now. As I get to know more people, I will gladly invite anyone who might be interested!

Hi Melanie. It is extremely important to get that kidney stone issue worked out asap. You will be drinking so much in the coming weeks and you don't need that stone getting stuck in the Uretur or ending up with an infection if it slices and dices a little. Having 2 of them in the past, I can sympathize with you. Best of luck.

Hi John!

I am sorry you have had experience with these darn stones too. Would not wish them on anyone. On the up side, you can proudly say you know a pain worse then labor! lol >wink< Although I have heard it's a bit worse for men as they exit. Ouch.

I have had 5 prior stones, this is #6 for me. Ugh. I worry much about how the surgery will affect my history of stones too (will they get more frequent etc) so I intend to really drill the urologist on Monday.

I have had to do the whole kidney stent thing too for a stone in the same kidney. So not fun.

Thank you for the wishes! Same to you as you continue your journey!

HI Melanie,

I am new here too and my surgery is Jan 12th , I am getting very nervous and excited too. I too suffer from kidney stones I have had about 24 of them I still have 5 in my kidneys, my body is prone to them,. I have had 7 surgeries the dang lasering and the awful stents so I know how you feel. my uroligist wanted to leave the stones alone until I had surgery , i was jsut cleaned out a year ago and alreay got 5 more, so it will be easier once I start losing weight to treat them I too worry that one will try to pass, but I have become so use to them .. anywhoo I hope that we can follow each other on our journey since we are having surgery so close together..
