Topic: It's been a week....

Hello Everyone!

Well it's been a week today that I was operated on (sleeve). I think everything is going smoothly really. I am just a little concerned about my liquid intake-today i was able to drink 2 bottle s of high protein Ensure and 500 ml of water. Is that adequate? I don't feel an real hunger except for the mental hunger- and even that is not really so bad. I feel a little emotional because psychologically, I am realizing that food is no longer my pole, my friend, the one I turn to when I am happy, sad, bored, stressed etc etc.... Am I the only one that feels like this? Does it go away? I almost feel like i am mourning the loss of a friend.....

   Let the journey begin...

Hi Beautiful Lady...

You have no idea how proud I am of you...you're soooooo rocking the "sleeve"!!!

You've realised something very important as I have going through this amazing journey and that is that we need to "live" life and not jus****ch it from the sidelines and be a spectator. We need to be active participants in our lives.

I, like you, have accomplished many exciting new things. I actually LOVE going to the gym. I actually "ran" on the treadmill for the first time in I think 20 years and it felt sooooo good.
I've been to concerts as well and have thoroughly had a fantastic time!!
Clothes are falling off me and have to get them altered all the time.

And also veryyyy exciting...had my first "date" in 8 years on saturday and let me tell you...was fabulous.

So can't wait to see you tomorrow!!!

Hugs,
Ada

Hey Lily!

Thank you!!! Girl, you will be here soon!!!! :) I am lucky I never drank coffee! so never had to wean myself, but good for you!!!
It will get better! PROMISE!
I was nervous the week before, wondering if I was doing the right thing, and I was thinking, man, it's just easier staying fat.. but now, I would not change it for the world!
You are going to rock your sleeve and I can't wait to follow your story!
Are you coming to the support group meeting tomorrow?

Take care!

Hey Elena!

Thank you!!!! Yes, it is honestly completely changed, and for the better!

I am mourning food, however, I feel FREE. I no longer sit thinking, man I could go for a BIG MAC or a PIZZA... But I so have a hard time finding what to eat.. because I'm still learning, although I am EXTREMELY Lucky to have a very "user friendly" and we seem to get along very well ;)

I was a CARB *****! Not even kidding you!! I could eat a cup of rice with everything and 1/2 a loaf of bread, NO PROBLEM!

But I don't miss it! Watching other people eat is enough incentive for me ;) I've even been to McDonalds since surgery with the kids on the way back from Calypso...

Elena, I can't wait for you to join me so I can hear all about your wonderful victories and accomplisments! you deserve it hun!

Wow Barbara, you have accomplished soooo much.  I am in total awe of you.  You have shown amazing stregnth in these past few months.  Your family must be so proud of you.

I am greatful for your posts, you give me such courage.  I wish I will have the same stamina as you.  I have been doing the optifast since saterday and 2 pounds gone....wooooohooo

I have stopped taking my coffee...i am a coffee addict, so that has been dreadful.  The headaches oooolala..very bad.  I just figured I might as well deal with the withdrawl now rather than later.  This morning I woke up thinking OMG...just two more weeks!!  All these years, then months and now 2 more weeks!!!!!!!!  Lol :)

Anyhow thank you for your courage.  Your post this morning got me sssssooooo excited. I can't believe it....TWO MORE WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great job Barbara!!!

 Hey Barbara!

That's amazing - so many changes in such a short time.  Two months to change your life, its hard to believe its possible, and you're just getting started.  It's really great that you have so much support too.

It's interesting the idea of "mourning food".  I just started optifast and somehow I feel sad about it all, and I can't figure out why.  It really is like ending a relationship with food...especially the carbs!  Bread, pasta and rice are totally my downfall.

But I'm sure once I start losing too and experiencing the victories, the good will outweigh the bad.

Thanks for sharing your experience Barbara!

So.. it was 2 months yesterday since I was sleeved, I didn't have a chance to post since I was home with sick little people..

How has my life changed in two short months?

Firstly, I started my journey at 311.5lbs.. a number I never told anyone, not even my husband... This morning, the scale read 241.6.....
I don't remember weight 241.6... It has to be AT LEAST 7-9 years since I weight that.. I got married in 2005 and I think I weighted 268...

This has been a fantastic summer, we have gone to PARC Safari - twice, I got to ride the water slides with my 2 girls and walked all day with my 3 treasures and my husband!

We went to Calypso water park in Ottawa and spent the ENTIRE day riding water slides and playing in the wave pool and splash parks... it was FANTASTIC

My clothes are getting too small.. I've rotated everything into smaller sizes and have started wearing clothes that fit me...

People are SHOCKED at the transformation and are very supportive!

My sister is in disbelief every time she sees me! She wants to join the gym and start eating right.. so that's great!

My mom has been a fantastic supporter, althought she is not nessisarily motivated by my changes, I hope one day she will be!

My husband can NOT believe the change - I've really lost from the top down... The last time I measured I've lost 6 inches off my rib area.. but that was 4 weeks ago!

I have NOT started working out, and REALLY need to kick my ass into gear, just with 3 kids, 6 & under and working full time (8-5) I'm not home until 6pm and then dinner/homework/bath and bed.. it's like there is no time left.. but I have to stop making excuses, and start being accountable! So I will make an effort! This is my promise to ME!

I'm am soo much happier, just in general! I smile, I take the stairs, I run after my kids, my knee pain has gone away!

I took my oldest to a concert a few weeks ago and it was at the bell center, I was there about a year ago and my knees were KILLING after 45minutes of sitting.. and we had to leave early because I could not stay any longer! This time, we sat 2 hours, NO PROBLEM at all! and even go up and down the stairs was easy!

My 6 year old daughter has been my biggest supporter and inspiration. She is always telling me how proud she is of me and that my clothes are too big. That I look great on any particular day of the week! It's just been amazing!

I'm so blessed!

Although there are days where I do feel I am "mourning" my relationship with food... the good days out weigh the bad days, 100 fold! I do however, no longer love food... we broke up... I eat to survive, and that is it! I have a very hard time choosing foods.. and eating enough... I don't' like beans or tuna... so ya. I love chicken and red meat.. I love veggies, I've tried a TINY bit of rice, I even had 2 rolls of sushi.. but it didn't taste like it used to.. nothing does... Which is a good thing! I no longer want to eat until I explode, and no longer need to finish every bite on my plate! I eat until I'm full, and then that's it.

I think my weakness is cheese and crackers.. because I love them, and they are easy! I know it's wasted carbs and calories.. but I don't care LOL!
I also live off Crystal light.. I used to LOVE water.. but now, it tastes yuck.. so I have to have it with some crystal light and then I'm good to go! I like Almonds... I tried hummas and I don't like it.. I'm learning!

But! At the end of the day, I would do this surgery 100 time again!

I truly appreciate all the help, suggestions and friendships I have come to make from this site and don't know if I would be where I am without them!
