Did you ever try nicotine replacement therapy like patches or gum?  I knew a lot of people that quit using Zyban...is that still used??

That's great news  - I bet the summer will fly by and before you know it, its your turn.   congrats!!

Can you tell me about the sleep apnea test?  I haven't had mine yet, and I assumed you had to go sleep at the clinic.  Derek - we live in the same area...did you do yours at home or in Montreal?  Also does the surgeon's office need to refer you?

One of the risks is that they don't do the surgery and they kick you down the list. I heard a horror story of one patient being caught before surgery, not in Canada btw, and the surgeon said that if he wasn't serious about getting his health back, he wasn't doing the surgery. This patient later paid to have it when he had it covered at first. This is just something I read about 2 years ago. Quitting would be the best thing mixed in with the Weight Loss. I know it's hard but you can do it.

I read it was really risky to smoke and have any type of surgery. Something to do with the blood stream and what not. Start by cutting back to 20 and day tomorrow, 15 a day the next day and so on until 0. I know it'll be hard but YOU CAN DO IT. I quit my diet pepsi addiction (3L a day for 15 years) and you can do your smoking addiction. Not really the same thing but it is somewhat relative I believe.

Hello all,

Martine asked me to quit smoking before my surgery... Has any of you experienced this and what if I can't do it, are there any risks to the surgery or? I smoke on average 25 cigarettes/day.

Thx :)

I am wondering something, Martine asked me to quit smoking... It would be very difficult for me as I smoke a pack a day? How would I handle that and what are the risks if I keep smoking?
