Try a slice of toast with a little peanut butter or almond butter for some protein.  I don't think there is anything wrong with eating bread occasionally.  Some people find it upsets their stomach and some find if they eat some bread, they just want more and more so they find it easier to avoid it completely.  But if you don't have a problem with it, eating it once in a while is no problem.

You could do something like this for the day:

Breakfast - slice of toast with almond butter - 10 grams protein (depending on the type of bread and how much almond butter)

Snack - string cheese - 6 grams protein

Lunch - 2 ounces tuna or chicken salad and some fruit or veggies - about 15 grams protein

Snack - 1/2 cup Greek yogurt or cottage cheese - about 14 grams protein

Dinner - 1/2 cup of chili - about 10 grams protein

Snack - piece of cheese and a few nuts - about 10 grams protein

That would give you about 65 grams of protein.  Of course you don't want to eat the same things every day.  But this should give you an idea.

You can also add a little bit of unflavored protein powder to things like yogurt and chili to boost the protein.

500 cals is too low IMHO at 5 months... have a little chat with your Dr about that one and be sure his Nut and him are on the same page. Generally that has increased to 1000-ish by now. That low no wonder you are losing hair. Read page 20: http://asmbs.org/wp/uploads/2014/05/nutritional-guidelines.p df

P.S. Mix some protein or yogurt in your oatmeal I love to do that in the winter: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2014/05/post- weight-loss-surgery-menus-day-in_26.html

Lots of good advice here - mostly stuff you really should know...maybe you are just wanting some support?

protein bars are a great alternative to shakes. I too hate shakes and refuse to gag them down. I eat quest bars if I need to boost my protein since they have the best nutritional stats. I also started eating their protein chips which also have amazing stats. As for your nut - I would find a dietician who is familiar with WLS. 500 calories does not sound right to me at all. Idk how you would even get your protein in on that low of calories but I am no expert. My calories is between 700-900 for a few several months now and I'm 6 months out down 93 pounds since surgery. Although this is what works for me, I'm not saying it will for you...

and who cares about the hair. I had thin hair anyway and now it's half gone and you know what - oh well! It comes back and the fat rolls are not going to. People will notice the fat rolls hanging off me long before they care about the hair loss. Being obese is unhealthy and hair loss is not...well in this case...
