6 years out, can I use birth control pills?
You can us use birth control pills but your doc will have to know you're a wls patient and test you regularly to see if you're absorbing them. Many of us lose the malabsorbtion around the two year mark - we don't lose all of it but it's not like it was in the beginning. Many of us don't have it much at all to rely on. Check with your doc - make sure he/she knows you have an altered digestive system. Many use birth control pills post op and get blood work done to see how they're absorbing. The dosage is then upped or reduced according to the blood work. You may want to use a second form until you're sure the bc pills are effective.

Jen,
Thanks for this good tip. What type of blood test would one ask for, and from who: OBGYN or WL doctor? I ask because I asked for a blood test to determine the serum level of the birth control and they both looked at me funny and said there aren't any types of tests which would determine that. I was hesitant to believe that. Have you been tested for that or known anyone who has been (blood levels of birth control hormones)?
