I think my stoma is stretched
I am 9 1/2 months post op and I think my stoma is stretched because I can eat and right after I eat I am still hungry/not satisfied. The food just goes right out of my pouch I never get full. I am still losing weight because although I don't get full I still measure and weigh everything I eat and also log everything. I need to make an appointment with my surgeon but does anyone know if they do find that it is stretched will they fix it? I am afraid that after the honeymoon phase that I will begin to eat more and gain back because I am not satisfied when I eat. Its really hard to sick to such small amounts of food when you don't get full.
By 9 1/2 months your pouch is pretty much full sized. You can eat a lot more than at the beginning. If you are concentrating on solid protein and very little carbs you should still get full and not be hungry. But eating carbs will keep you hungry.
Repairing the stoma has very low success, but yours is probably not stretched.
Every year it gets harder to keep the weight off. You have to learn to be satisfied on a lot less food and not eat more just because you can. The secret is always dense protein. The hunger can also be from acid. Are you taking medicine like Nexium to control acid?

Yes I take a ppi pantoprazole. I only eat about 32 carbs a day and that is from veggies, yogurt and cheese and always eat dense protein. I eat about 700 to 750 calories a day. I do realize that the pouch gets bigger the farther out you are but to have no restriction at all is the concerning part.
I seriously doubt your stoma is stretched. At your stage of post-op, you're able to eat more because your pouch has healed from the surgery and it is at the point your surgeon made it to be.
You'd have to be overfilling your pouch throughout the day for a long period of time. At 9-1/2 months post-op, and from what you describe you're eating, I don't think a stretched stoma is what you have. It is alarming when you've healed and progressed to the time you're at post-operatively that you can eat more. I remember being concerned too.
Make sure you are eating lean protein that will stay in your pouch longer and give you the sense of satiety. As long as you're eating protein first, vegetables, fruits and not simple carbs, you'll be fine.
Talk with your surgeon or nutritionist so you'll know and be less concerned.

I am having the exact same problem. I am 9 months and a week out of surgery. My surgeon says that I should eat 2/3 of a cup of food over 25 minutes and after the 25 minutes I should feel like I ate thanksgiving dinner. I do that amount of food for that amount of time and I am still hungry. It takes way more food than that to make me feel satisfied. I told the surgeon I was concerned it stretched and he said he has been doing this for 20 years and has never seen one stretch. He says it doesn’t happen. I asked if I should get a CT scan to check and he refused to order the test. So I got a test order from my gastro guy and it says “Pouch is larger than is normally seen in gastric bypass patients”. So if the pouches never stretch, am I correct in assuming he made it too big? My insurance will not cover a repair… The CT scan also says that the part of the stomach that has been sectioned off has a ‘moderate to medium amount of fluid”. I have not shown him all this yet… Not looking forward to doing it.

At 9 months out, the average pouch has stretched to hold a cup to a cup 1/2. It doesn't stay 3 oz forever. He is talking about the stoma and you have to work pretty hard to stretch that..years of abusing the tool and then it's not that common.

I hope my surgeon isn't as dismissive as yours was when I see her and tell her what is going on. I know for a fact that it happens because that's why they tell you not to drink while you eat so your surgeon was full of it lol. I don't think its my actual pouch that is stretched I think its my stoma because the food doesn't stay in the pouch at all no matter what I eat. And other people that I've talked to about it says it does happen but not often. good luck presenting the findings to your surgeon I hope you get it sorted out :)
Eating while drinking has nothing to do with stretching anything. It's about being satisfied with what you eat, and not eating more, leading to regain.
I've never heard of a CT scan being used to gauge the size of a stomach or stoma. I've only heard of an endoscopy for that purpose.
