med question

Hey , just a quick question. I have the flu and strep throat. I went to see my regular doctor and he was out of town so I had to see his P.A. she did the test and wrote some scripts. I reminded her and asked several times if the meds she was prescribing were ok for me to take. She said they were that I could crush the antibiotic and the antiviral and that the cough medicine would be fine. I did not know the cough medicine would be a gel capsule. I think that I remember being told not to take capsules. It is very small about half the size of a lemon seed. Do any of you take gel capsules? My surgeon is also out of town for the holidays.

I take medicine in any form, without crushing, and have done since immediately after surgery. "Horsepills" I cut into pieces in the early days.

The only pharmaceuticals contraindicated are NSAIDS, and extended release can be iffy for some people, particularly if they're psych drugs.

A pharmacist is the expert on drugs and will know more than your surgeon or your Primary Care doctor on what is safe for you to take.

Edited: I see you had your surgery in 2015 so not sure why you are still crushing pills????

As Kim replied to you, I started taking pills right out of a hospital. As I was supposed to leave they handed me 2 large pain pills to take before my car ride.

Some big, horse pills - I break down, just because I hate big pills. But I have been taking pills and capsules from day 3 post op.

Because I know I still may malabsorb fats, I try to avoid most fats when I take an of my medicine. Even fat soluble vitamins (D3, K, E, A etc,) I try to find in a water soluble form. Water soluble - is a special formulation also known as "dry" vitmins.
