I eat butter and peanut butter toast all the time still! I was never a huge fan of PB sandwiches without it toasted so I probably wouldn't do it that way. But, I'm not scared of fat at all. I full fat everything - avocado, sour cream, sausage, etc.

My family members who were from Brooklyn, NY usually put butter on a sandwich. Ham, cheese, turkey, or lunchmeats. I remember my aunt in Ireland making sandwiches with butter and jelly. Maybe it was an Irish thing.

I don't like peanut butter or jelly, but always had it in the house when there were kids around. Being the oldest of 13 children, I learned to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches assembly line style for school lunches.

I would line up the proper size sheets of wax paper on the counter, put 2 slices of bread on each one, then put the peanut butter on every other slice, then the jelly on the other slices and put them together. Then I would use a sharp knife to slice them diagonally before wrapping each in wax paper. I always put the peanut butter away and washed the butter knife before starting the jelly.

I made 32 sandwiches each morning, which involved two loaves of sliced white bread. The girls usually took one sandwich, the boys mght take two or three. I always had a stack of brown paper lunch bags and wrote each kid's name on the bag. Each bag also got an apple or orange and some cookies for dessert and I made sure everyone had money to buy milk for lunch.

Many days we had ham sandwiches. There were 16 slices in a pound of ham, so a ham sandwich was one slice of ham and two pieces of white bread. Fridays were meatless and that usually meant making a big bowl of tuna salad for the sandwiches.

None of us had any weight problems growing up because everything was portioned out. I was amazed after i grew up to see people piling multiple slices of meat on a sandwich. I could have fed a family on what some people ate in a day. Bacon was a real shock to me. We fried one pound of bacon for sixteen sandwiches. When I served my husband a bacon sandwich, he informed me that one slice of bacon was not a bacon sandwich to him.

OMG, my MIL used to have essentially the same job as the oldest of 11 (3 girls, 8 big, strong boys). And also no weight issues for any of them until they were adults.

With that many mouths to feed, you have to be very careful not to waste time or food. Everything becomes a routine with detailed steps. Otherwise the chaos is unbearable. If there are 13 kids and each one leaves one book in the Livingroom, the place becomes a cluttered nightmare.

Everything has to be put in its place as soon as it is finished with. Every item of food has to be planned and accounted for. On Saturday, my mother would buy the 10 loaves of bread for the week and keep it in the freezer. She would check the ads to find the very best prices on everything.

A 50 pound bag of potatoes was 50 cents. We used one of those every week. I always had to peel 10 pounds of potatoes for a meal. My mother said she would never have been able to do it if she had to pay the prices that food costs today. A loaf of bread was about 40 cents then and she would look for a special of 35 cents.

Wow, I can picture the assembly line. It's AMAZING!

I think butter is a European thing. I've always had butter and jam on bread as a kid. We also used mascarpone cheese (sweet) as a base for our jam sandwiches.

hi all

well I woke up at 3 am and didn't get to go back to bed :( so I'm up early working... I've done a lot so far.

Food has been good really taking it easy. going to weigh tomm. I have yoga tonight at 6pm

QOTD, I prefer peanut butter on one side jelly on other- BUT I like 2x the peanut butter to jelly ratio and honestly could do without the jelly. I would prefer a toasted bread with peanut butter on it so it get a bit melty. maybe add dark chocolate instead of jelly...

I put on NYDJ capri pants and shirt yesterday and ran a few errands.

food plan today

coffee/water/more coffee/water

last of the ground chicken veggies I made

Not sure on breakfast

Dinner I think will be pizza toppings on salad greens.

You are going to an actual yoga class tonight? Virtual or (gasp!) in person? I know staying home is keeping the monster from wholesale feeding and breeding, and is critical. But it sure will be nice to take a real class again when all this is in our rear view mirrors! Something to look forward to!
