Meaghan, I completely understand. I broke down a few days ago crying thinking about what I have done to myself. It's hard to imagine only being able to eat 4 oz for the rest of your life. Also, I pulled something and have had pain in the stomach and back feels like a sword going through me. I'm dealing but I've been very tired and between that and the pain it's just frustrating. I know it will get better soon and I know the reasons that we did it are good. I hope that you're starting to feel better. I'm determined to start walking soon because I think that will help.

Hello Ladies,So glad to find that I am not alone in this matter. I had this band done by Dr. Molina probably 16 years ago and I would love to get it removed. I still have issues with throwing up. Also does anybody have any idea if we can get our hands on our medical records anywhere? I know that Dr. Molina died and the Spring Branch Hospital had closed down. Just doing my due diligence and trying to gather any helpful information that I can regarding the removal of the band done by Dr. Marcel Molina. Any help or information will be very appreciated.

Hi All, I had my sleeve done in 2012. Everything was fine except for my gaining back most of my weight until about 3 months ago. I started all of a sudden throwing up. No nausea, just throwing up. Because of this I went to Doctors and got a tons of tests done. It is now found out that I have an anatomical defeat that has resulted in a Hiatal hernia where my stomach is bent up and in my diaphragm. The Surgeon says in order to fix it she doesn't want to just fix the hernia, but she wants to convert me to a RNY. She says that just fixing the hernia, it will more then likely come back. And doing the RNY, it won't. I am going for a second opinion, but wanted to know if anyone else else experienced this? If so, what is your experience with it? I originally did not do the RNY because I could not wrap my head around rerouting my pipes so to speak.
I'm a little delayed getting back to you....it's been a crazy couple of weeks. Buying a house, suing my slumlords, trying to work and build a podcast/website. BUSYYYYY!
1 - OMG CONGRATS ON BEING COVERED FOR REVISION! That is going to really be a game changer for you! I'm so happy you don't have to stress over the money and time off factor and you can just focus on healing your mind and body! What a blessing that is! In all honesty, more US employers should look at how Europe handles leave and the retention rates. Being flexible and understanding really makes for great long term employees. I just joined a company in June that has unlimited vacation. It's not tracked. It's not measured. You just do your job and ask in advance and it's typically approved (unless there's a valid business reason to deny). What a great company to let you do what you need to do!! BRAG AWAY, THO! YOU DESERVE TO BE EXCITED!
2 - HOLY CRAP YOU ARE IN TAMPA TOO!? ? WHAAAAAAT!?
3 - Your PCP sounds like a b*tch! I always remind judgmental people of one BIG fact: Overweight people KNOW they're overweight. I was always aware of my weight and size, even if they don't sulk in it. It's like these people want you to be miserable. As if putting someone down for their choices has EVER helped them overcome! I always hated the biggest loser for that. They humiliated people into crash dieting and basically gave them eating disorders....ridiculous. Help them emotionally, for god's sake! Hence my site/podcast. I want to help others the RIGHT way ?. Anywho, so so glad you are making progress and not experiencing road blocks! Life's about to get way better for you and that is exciting as hell!

Wow, 800 calories? Oh boy. I'm on modified keto, per my doctor and wow, just wow. I don't know if I can do that.
Thank you for that, I guess I'll have to try.
it is easier done if you eat lots of dense protein, beef, chicken, pork, eggs, etc.
carbs are not your friend and run your calories up real quickly.
800 cals puts you into a calorie deficit which makes your body burn your stored fat which causes weight loss.
Most of us who have had WLS can't lose on more than 800 cals.

My surgeon applied on the basis of symptomatic GERD and a barium swallow and it was approved. I did have a lot of other issues, but he didn't need to use them as basis for the revision. I'd already been through a failed fundoplication and hiatal hernia repair after my VSG in an attempt to solve the GERD without a revision. Like you, I didn't need the revision for weight loss.
Good morning, I was just checking in with you to see how your hernia repair and revision went. I hope all is going well. I had my revision July 31st I've only lost 11 pounds but I guess that's good. I was kind of hoping I've lost more than that but I haven't. It does not seem like I'm restricted with eating only the 4 ounces but I hope everything works in my favor this time around.
I had RNY 30 years ago. September of 2016 I sought a revision I was 543 pounds. By surgery date I was 404 which was one year later. My surgeon had me do six month dieting for insurance purposes. I took advantage of that time. RNY revisions haven't proven successful so many Drs. won't consider them. However there are success stories out there. Each one I have found it was more the persons efforts then the surgery, as is mine. The surgery gives you a fighting chance but you really have to push that extra mile when you have an RNY and they are going to try to strengthen (my term) the RNY surgery. My doctor made me distal bypassing more intestines. (Thankfully none of the complaints happen to me. In fact I no longer have the dumping. Not sure that is good but I never liked sweets so it doesn't bother me or tempt me. It's not the norm just how I turned out.) She made my pouch smaller. She basically redid the entire surgery over. Many doctors just will tighten the pouch, or just will lengthen the limb. She did it all. Yes there was a chance of greater complications and my size alone made me very high risk. She had to go through two stomach surgeries of adhesion's to do this with a lap. So however many times your stomach has been operated on is that many times the adhesion's. So if you haven't closed your browser reading this then yes it can be done, yes it can be successful but you will work a lot harder this time around then the first time. Age and the fact it's not new will be against you. Watching what you eat, doing what they tell you and exercising like a demon will help you along. A normal RNY has average weight loss statistics of 70% of your excess weight. A RNY revision to an RNY has about 50 pounds of weight loss. (Remember this time you need to work that tool like never before.) I am currently three weeks from being one year out and from surgery I am at 70% and if I add in what I did before surgery I am at 80%. You can do it don't let the doctors tell you it won't work or the failures make up your mind. Commit to it and it can happen for you.
Good Luck!
Insurance dictates the process as does your surgeon's program. My process was the following.
1. Had to use a Center of Excellence.
2. Initial meeting to see if I would be accepted.
3. Tests had to be ran due to previous RNY and a follow up visit with Surgeon.
4. Six month of a physician supervised diet and all the documentation needed.
5. Took a month to get in to see the surgeon after the six months.
6. Surgeon appointment.
7. Submit to insurance. (Told by representative it would not be covered. Submitted and was approved in two weeks. Don't listen to anything they tell you on the phone. Work the program.)
8. Got a call to return for a dietary class. I"m from out of town so scheduling me to them took a month.
9. Got a call after the class to do preop tests and a surgery date. She is a busy surgeon so took a month or so to get a date.
10. One year from the exact date of the initial consult I had surgery.
This is my story but everyone is very different. Your Surgeon's program will drive most of the timeline other than insurance approval.
Just a side note. I had a problem after surgery that was due to surgery not the fact it was bariatric. I had to return and have a simple procedure done. I smile now because when I told the Radiologist the surgery I had she seem surprised anyone would bother with a revision. She was rather arrogant about it because it's not known for it's huge success ratio. Oh how I wish I could talk to her now.
How did you know that your RNY wasn't done correctly? Like did a doctor discover it or did you just suspect?
