Has anyone tried to get insurance approval from gastric bypass to sleeve siting medically necessary due to chronic IBS? I have clause one per lifetime unless due to complications. Any insight will greatly be appreciated. Consult with surgeon Wednesday 4/11.
I second what Pat R. said. My band did not slip but it did cause severe acid reflux/GERD and it had to come out. I had a revision in December of 2017 and I am down 45 pounds! I am off all meds, high blood pressure is gone but best of all zero acid reflux. Did your doctor give you a choice?

I am at my wits ends. My pre determination of benefits were denied. My doctor did a peer to peer review this morning and it was denied. I filed an appeal as soon as I got the denial call. The reason I was denied was because my current EGD shows no sign of erosion, slippage, or reflux. I wrote a pretty lengthy letter and faxed to the insurance company. The letter detailed all the issues I have had with my band over the last two years. I have had horrible reflux and port pain. I faxed over 132 pages. Yes I know that's a lot. Has anyone had to appeal?
I had no choice. The reflux and the damage from the slipped band was so bad, the only way to go was bypass. I wish I had chosen bypass in the 1st place.
Good luck to you, what ever you choose!
That sounds terrible. I had one with my VSG but it wasn't draining much so they took it out the next day.
:( I had one with my VSG and it was in there for 3 weeks, now that was pain, ugh.

Thoughts? Meeting my doctor today. Had a slip, so he took the fill out. I'm eating everything in sight. I'm miserable. I want this band out. It or I didn't do our job. Sleeve or RNY?
Yes I did have one. My surgeon actually sent me home with it and removed it at my one week follow up. It's wasnt bad to deal with, just annoying. I don't think all surgeons do this, it just depends.
Hi Leslie,
Did you have to have a drainage tube? And I'm glad to hear you are doing well.
