Hi I had an Overstitch (Apollo) last Monday Sept 16, 2019. I felt soar afterwards it was outpatient. I've lost a total of 14 lbs. what I've been doing is full liquids now and for the next 45 days. But I do it doing keto. Do you still feel restriction? Because I can drink more than 2oz at a time. I know it's been a while since you had it. How much weight have you lost? Thank you
Glad to hear that you are doing well! Congrats on the weight loss!
I'm below my goal weight right now and I'm having to take B12 injections weekly to have some energy. Hoping the RNY will get me all fixed up.
When I had my hernia removed earlier the doctor told me my sleeve was cut larger than they cut them now. I had mine over 12 years ago. He said now they make the sleeve a lot smaller than mine, but I had no problem losing weight. I lost over 100 lbs and it's pretty much stayed off all 12 years. I've only gained once when I had to have a lot of steroid injections, but as soon as they got out of my system the weight came back off.
I'm hoping the RNY recovery goes as well as my sleeve recovery. I'm looking forward to no GERD.
How far out are you? Are you able to eat pretty normal now?
With DS you malabsorb fat, but absorb every carb you eat. Many revision patients end up with a 20 pound loss, so 39 sounds good. You may have to cut carbs if you are not losing.

Revision patients tend to lose more slowly than folks having their first surgeries, and lose less weight overall.
Also, if you are losing inches, you are still making progress.

You may post that question on DS forum. They may be best to help you.

Hi everyone
I am an RNY to DS. I was self financed. I have only lost 36 lbs total. And 30 of it was in the first 5 weeks. I haven't lost a single solitary pound since then. Nothing. Yes, lost some inches. But nothing else. I have uppped my protein, downed my protein, upped my carbs, downed my carbs. Upped my exercise, downed my exercise. Nothing. Today Doc pretty much is confounded as to why I haven't lost. Said maybe eat less. OK I am under 1000 calories and see the nutritionist. They may help. I asked about my loss expectation and he said maybe high 100's low 200's. Huh? I started at 269. That is it? Yeah, probably that is all you can expect at this point. Oh btw, my common channel (I can't remember the length he said, maybe 100?) which I did ask about. He said he made it "very aggressive" so he doesn't understand the lack of malabsorption. One bowel movement a day is a puzzle to him but no advice on how to change it? More fat, less fat? good fat? Nada. He is a very good surgeon and very reputable but I think he has never seen something like this. I am very upset and feel like I spent over 20k to lose about 70 lbs. I guess maybe I went into this with the wrong expecations. Maybe that is all I can hope for.
sorry for the long post. Just trying to see if there are any other revision folks out there with any similar stories. Thank GOODNESS for this site. I swear the folks here are more helpful than my NUT and doc at this point!
Talk seriously with the surgeon about the prospect of shorter limbs to minimize weight loss. When I was looking into this a few years ago (cancer scare), one of the things that I noted from others who have undergone these surgeries for non WLS purposes was the relatively common incidence of bile reflux. Discussing this with the surgeon, he stated that he hasn't had any problems with it if he keeps the limb a minimum of (IIRC) 80cm (though it may have been 60). That seems to be a critical factor in keeping things balanced, even if it might result in you going a bit overboard on weight loss initially.
Diet wise, high fat, low carb is the way to go to maximize caloric density and minimize weight loss (Paleo or Keto in the popular diet world.) Longer term, diet with the RNY will not be significantly different than with the VSG, though some may be more inclined than others toward dumping and/or reactive hypoglycemia and need to make appropriate adjustments.

Thanks for the response. You have given me a lot to consider. The doctor I'm seeing is recommending SADI which is a simpler surgery.
I have joined NOOM which helps with psychological issues around eating to some extent and Jenny Craig till I get my head on straight about eating
With any luck I ll lose the weight myself and the likelihood that I get turned down for insurance is great
I'm just throwing everything I have at this problem
You can ask that question on the DS forum. But as it was mentioned, RNY to DS is a very complicated surgery and there are only a very few doctors who can do it and do it properly.
There should be a bunch of people on the DS forum *****vised from RNY to DS and are happy about that. Check it out.
BTW- I also have issues with some foods if they are easily available in the house. One of the major is bread, even though I know I should stay away from it, if not because I don't want to gain weight, but because I have intolerances to gluten and grains in general.
Having a partner who likes and can eat bread, could be challenging if he did not care about me and my health. But because he does, we don't have fresh bread at home very often, but we do have sometimes and then we keep it out of my sight. We also have frozen bread that he or I can bake for him in less than 10 min.
Good luck. Remember - even 1 lbs a month is a loss not a gain. Small steps.
