How long...?
Hey Rachel
I went back to work in 3 weeks. I probably could have gone earlier, but since I work in Greenville, we decided to wait. Dr. Ross was real good to work with me on how I felt, how strenuous my job was, and knowing that some people have different pain tolerences and heal at a different pace. He also realizes that some people can't afford to miss too much work and will work with you on getting back to work if you need to (ex..letting you work so many hours a day so that you won't overdo it).
Hope this helps!!
Hugs,
Dianne

Hi Rachel
I work on weekends only and I took 3 weekends off. I had planned on going back after 2 weekends, but Dr. Bour wanted me to give my drain site time to heal. I am a Home Health nurse and I never know what type of environment I will be in and he did not want me to risk my health with an open wound. I was ready to go back after 2 weeks though. A lot depends on the type of work you do. I think after 2 to 3 weeks most people are ready!!!

I went back to work 2 weeks after my LAP RNY. I could have went back after 1 week, but I was still sleeping at weird times and not back to my complete self. It really depends on you. My surgery was a breeze, no complications, and I am young- so I had all the stars aligned- I also didn't want to use all my vacation time either ;) Good luck and just plan to take as much time as you neeed.
