I am a new state employee. Unfortunately, our INS will not cover anything that is weight related. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might get approved?

I also am a state employee and trust me, they are NOT gonna cover it. No matter what you do. I finally had to switch to my husband's insurance to get coverage. I don't have any suggestions. I am sorry. You may want to check with you doctor about financing it. Rachel

Do you have any idea why the plan will not pay for WLS?

I have no idea. I know they used to cover it (like 5 years ago). I heard they realized how popular it was and then drop the idea because it cost them too much money! Unfortunately, insurance companies are all about making money. I wish you the best. Rachel

The only thing I've heard is that some state employees can change to "MUSC OPTIONS" (some are allowed to change/some aren't but I don't know why) ... MUSC Options covers weight loss procedures & is one of the easiest to get approved through. Best of luck on your journey, Mr Darren. God bless you ... Dawn & Nick

You may have trouble changing to MUSC Options. I believe it is only available to those in the Low Country Area from what I understand. I do remember one state employee that was trying to get that changed. It is just not fair to those in the rest of the state. I wish you luck. Julie
