I don't Sandy, as I don't want to get into new habits or old habits. I did only for the first 2-3 weeks, protein ya know. Now, I don't, but sometimes, I just go with the flow.
Dr. Byrne always told us we are on a diet, and our goal is to lose weight, so as long as you get in your protein each day, no worries...just remember to drink though.
Hope that helps
Deb

Use www.fitday.com and just make sure you are not going over the recommended calories your surgeon told you..I think I was doing about 800 cals a day if that at 6 weeks.
The short answer is, "absolutely yes", especially for the first 6 months. The reason is simple ... To regain & maintain good health & lifestyle choices.
You won't feel hungry for quite a while ... That's a wonderful side effect ... But, now is the time to build good eating habits focusing on fluids, proteins & nutrients.
It takes a good 3 months for your body to completely heal from the surgery so you can see why it is so improtant to "feed" your body with the correct food products.
It takes 6 months for your body to completely use up stored nutrients & begin using newer stored nutrients ... That's why most GB doctors have your first bloodwork at 6 months ... They want to see what nutrients & at what levels your body is storing them since your GB surgery.
Also, if you have issues like losing hair or low energy, the only way to overcome them is to "feed" your body with high-quality fluids, foods & supplements.
Somewhere around 4-6 months, you will be able to eat a little more at a time so you can go back to 3 or 4 small meals/snacks a day, but remember to keep making good choices with the basis of your eating being your protein products ... Drinks, shakes, puddings, bars, meats, poultry, fish, eggs, low fat cheeses, etc ... adding veges, especially green ones or very colorful ones (not white), dairy & fruits as you can ... but, remember, we are still only talking about a few bites.
Some of the ladies never change from the 6 small meals because they find that their energy levels stay level & stay up. Also remember, that 6 meals still consists of a few bites, not a full meal like we ate before surgery.
Now that you don't have an appetite is the best time to make good, life-changing habits. Remember, your pouch has an effective life of about 18 months at best. The effectiveness of your pouch deminishes each month until your pouch is basically nothing more than a small stomach & the whole reason you are maintaining your new healthy weight at that time is through good choices & activity like everyone else in the world. So, working on good choices & an eating pattern & increasing your activity levels now when you aren't hungry will be your way of success for the rest of your life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EAT TO LIVE vs LIVE TO EAT!
God bless you ... Dawn & Nick
