Hi there! My name is Bet and I live in upstate SC. I've been reading the board for a few days and doing some research about lapband surgery. This is something I want so badly. I've struggled most of my life with a weight problem. I have a BMI of 35, but I also have degenerative discs, arthritis, and I have hypopituitarism caused from a pit. tumor. I currently have both medicare and medicaid. Has anyone had the surgery and this insurance paid for it?

Welcome, Bet!! You aren't too far from me! My insurance covered lapband, but only for BMI's under 50. Mine was 56.6 back then. I don't have medicare or medicaid though. Sorry I don't have more info for you, but I wanted to welcome you, and hope you stick around!! Blessings, Elizabeth

Hey Bet, You need to talk to Dianne Smith 560-6935 with Spartanburg Regional Weight Loss (Dr. Ross). With Spartanburg Regional being a Center of Excellence, the program is approved for medicare. I'm not sure with your BMI being 35, but she will be able to give you details on it. Hugs, Dianne

Thank you Dianne, I give her a call tomorrow. I attended a support meeting tonight for lap banders and learned a great deal. My BMI may not be a problem since I have arthritis and degenerative disc disease. Keep your fingers crossed!!
