Will honey make me dump?

Just wondering if honey is considered a natural sugar in the WLS world. My son had some hot tea last night with honey (for his cough) and it sparked me to see if it was something we could have without dumping. I definitely dump on regular sugar but fruits don't bother me. Thanks for the info!! Susan 233/209.4/150

BEE POO IS SUGAR, PLAIN & SIMPLE JUST LIKE SUGAR PROCESSED FROM SUGAR CANE OR SUGAR BEETS. SUGAR IS SUGAR SO, YES YOU COULD DUMP & NO, YOU SHOULDN'T EAT IT. FRUIT USUALLY DOESN'T MAKE US DUMP & I IMAGINE IT IS BECAUSE THE NATURAL SUGARS ARE COMBINED WITH THE FIBER OF THE FRUIT, SO IT'S KINDA LIKE I WROTE PREVIOUSLY ABOUT NOT EATING CARBS NAKED ... IF YOU ADD A PROTEIN OR A FAT WITH THE CARB (WHITE CARBS LIKE CRACKERS LET'S SAY), THEN YOUR BODY DIGESTS IT SLOWER THAN IF YOU ATE THEM "NAKED" OR DRANK SUGAR WATER (SODA POP) OR FRUIT JUICE WHICH IMMEDIATELY SHOOTS YOUR BLOOD SUGAR SKY HIGH. EATING A LITTLE YOGURT WITH YOUR FRUIT IS ALSO A GOOD WAY OF SLOWING DOWN THE SUGAR FROM DIGESTING IN YOUR SYSTEM SO FAST. IT'S LIKE HAVING A MINI DIABETIC REACTION. THAT'S WHY WE SHOULD ALWAYS WARN DOCTORS IF WE ARE EVER HOSPITALIZED TO EITHER NOT GIVE US A SUGAR BASED FLUID OR ONE THAT IS VERY, VERY LOW IN SUGAR. THE MINUTE IT HITS YOUR BLOODSTREAM, YOU GO INTO A DUMP, INTO A MINI DIABETIC REACTION TO THE SUGAR. GOD BLESS YOU ... DAWN & NICk

I don't dump on sugar, just sugar alcohols, so I just have to experiment with things. It is a chance you have to take to find out how things affect you, unfortunetly, experimenting to see if you dump isn't fun. I can eat fruits alone with no problem, and yes I have had some honey with no problem, but that's just me. Nothing that I have tried yet has bothered me other than the sugar alcohols which made me deathly sick before surgery too. I can't even use splenda, it makes me sick, so that is a big problem in the world of sugar free foods. Everything has splenda in it now and I can't eat most sugar free things. It stinks, but it's something I have to work around since I know I can't eat things with a lot of sugar because of the risk of gaining weight and not losing. I wish you luck, I know how it is worrying if something will make you sick or not. I never try something new unless I am at home, lol. Take care! Mary

Wow. I guess it's good that you don't dump on sugar but I can't imagine not being able to have splenda or anything else like that. So you REALLY have to watch your sweet tooth! Thank you for the information. And I have dumped on sugar and your'e right - it was no fun at all! I don't want to do that anymore if I can help it. Take care of yourself! Susan

That makes it tough on you, Ms Mary ... Dumping on sugar alcohols. Being so new in the journey, maybe you don't know, but your pouch will change almost daily for awhile as to what it will & won't tolerate, so hopefully very soon, you will be able to tolerate at least some sugar substitutes/alcohols which would make your weight loss & food choices easier for you. My pouch could be very termperamental but at around 10 months, it seemed to settle down considerably. I still have some minor issues at times but in general, I can eat most things except sugar products & excessive white carbs, which I'm actually happy that they still cause me distress so it helps me stay away from them. Here's hoping that things improve for you as well!!!! God bless you ... Dawn & Nick
