Dr. Byrnes

Dr. Byrne - one of my pet peeves is that everyone puts an "s" at the end of his name - is the head of the dept. and truly excellent, but don't despair if you're assigned to one of the other doctors. He has trained them all, and they are all fantastic. You are in the best of hands at MUSC. I had Dr. Morgan, and just loved her. I happen to prefer women doctors, but that's just me. I think they communicate better. Good luck to you!
They will send you the packet, and when you mail it back in, they will mail you an appointment to come in for an hour long seminar with about 15-20 others. After that you have an appointment with the doctor (and you can request Dr. Byrne), then you see the phyc Doctor and the nutritionist. Then they will schedule you (maybe the same day) to be with the nurse and the nutritionist for an hour long group meeting with each. I did it all on one day to get all the info I could, and get it all done in one day. You must attend all of these. You may bring someone with you that is going to be of good support to you. Good luck. Deb
Dr. byrne let me slide on attending the meetings and when I had my first consult the psych intern and the nutritionist came to meet me in the office the reason that this was done was because of my size and transport time I could not go in a car I had to go by ambulance then when we got final insurance approval I got my date for June 3 (first consult Feb 18 2006) but I missed that due to hospitalization and they rescheduled my for Aug 30 2006 without question I'm now down 245 pounds and doing great just wanted to say good luck and that Dr byrne's staff is fantastic and they will work with you most of the time
