Thirsty
I had my surgery on Feb 7th...I am getting in some protein now and feeling a little better. Sometimes I feel a little lightheaded. Also, I feel so thirsty. I wish I could gulp a bottle of water. Has anyone had this problem. Also, how soon after you eat or before can you drink? Thanks for any help. Jennifer
Jennifer, being thirsty is normal after GBS. I'm 3 1/2 months out and I still feel like I can drink a gallon of water and still be thirsty. My doctor tells us to not drink anything for 30 minutes before or after eating. I guess all doctors are different when it comes to what they think is best for the patient. I'm sure feeling light headed is normal too, since your body has just been through a major surgery and your not getting much in your tummy like you have been use to in the past. It will all get better with time. I wish you the best in your journey.

Hang in there Jennifer, it will get better. You are probably trying to do too much - and your body is telling you with the lightheadedness. Also, lack of water can have that effect. Just sip, sip, sip and then sip some more. Try to work in the protien too but the liquids are vital right now.
Good luck and welcome to the losing side!!!

Try keeping ice chips in your mouth. OR SF popsicles. It will help keep your tongue wet to appease that "thirst" feeling.
Also, sip sip sip when you can.
I am 11 months out and I can gulp water again...nothing like I used to before surgery, but alot better than immediately post op.
Hope this helps.
