tanning question

A couple of minutes under a tanning light sound really good to me right now. NO, I will not turn into a wrinkled dark lady tanning addict. NO, I don't want skin cancer. NO, I am not trying to get my body to be one color for when I am half naked at Myrtle Beach...wait, maybe I am... However, because my skin was previously flawless and blemish free (yeah right!) I do not know how to address the scar issue. I don't want my scars to get darker. Is that something I have to worry about at this stage? Or do I need to cover them? I guess it doesn't really matter anyway. I probably won't be walking around with my jelly belly hanging out anyway... Kathy

Kathy I tan a lot and my scars seem to lighten up. Even stretch marks are lighter. I've never had a problem with them getting darker or being more noticable. And I'm one of those people who stay at the pool for 6-8 hours at a time and soak up the rays.

In my experience, scars always get lighter -- but DON'T DO IT! You've had major surgery to get healthier -- don't send out a written invitation for skin cancer!!!!! *hugs* Lisa

MY DADDY HAS 3 TYPES OF SKIN CANCER, INCLUDING MELANOMA, & ALL JOKING ASIDE, YOU DON'T WANT TO GO THROUGH IT FOR ANYTHING. THEY HAVE CUT & CUT & CUT ON HIM UNTIL HE IS JUST A BUNCH OF SCARS. &, NOOOOO, THEY DON'T CARE WHAT THE SCARS LOOKS LIKE, THEY ONLY CARE THAT THEY GOT THE CANCER & ENOUGH "FREE SPACE" AROUND WHERE THE CANCER WAS. IT SEEMS LIKE THERE IS NO END TO THE "SPOTS" THEY FIND. I'M WITH MS LISA ... FORGET THE TANNING BED ... STAY HEALTHY! GOD BLESS YOU ... DAWN & NICk

tanning helps with stretch marks and scars! .... and cancer from tanning beds i would think would be from years of abuse of them.. not a month of going to get the base tan for the summer.. and the tanning bed is better than tanning outside because it doesnt have the harmful rays that the sun has. I need to go for a month before the beach!! i better get started since theres only a month left before the beach lol.. jen

I say pick your poison - just don't abuse it. I LOVE to tan, just don't do my face. I can't wait to lay out in MB, yes I convinced DH to drive me to MB, or maybe Towana and I will road trip for the day. I don't want to miss the party. Mary

I love the sun, but I have a darker skin tone that tans in only 3-4 times in the tanning bed or in the sun. I don't tan my face either. In the sun I put heavy duty stuff on and in the bed I cover my face with a towel. I get tons of stuff in the mail because I was going to open up a tanning salon but I changed my mind. Either in the sun or in the bed, you must use common sinse, don't over do it. As much as I love to tan, personally I believe the sun is getting hotter and the electric sun devices can't be all that great for us either. But do it smart and in moderation. I grew up worshiping the sun, heck in the summer I almost needed to change my race, and I loved it. Yea, Myrtle Beach isn't far away...I hafta' get a tan too. Deb
