I've been a regular blood donor for several years, but i havent donated since last summer. I'm assuming that it is ok to donate now? Nothing about the surgery should prevent me from doing it? I just don't look forward to being stuck after having been stuck 30 something times when i was in the hospital, but other than that all should be ok. I'm only taking vitamins so i should have healthy blood.

Hi Anita I am a regular donar. I asked Dr. bour after my 6 months and he said it was fine just not to do it before any lab work....so they wouldn't think my levels were low. My hemoglobin has also been fine, so I go ahead and donate. Melissa

Hey Miss Anita ! ... I wish I could be a blood donor.. but, the RedCross will not accept blood from me, because I live in England from 1990 thru 1993 ... They say I might have eaten beef tainted with Mad Cow.... It's crazy I know.. but what can I do... ANYWAY.. time for me to head back out into the pasture.. I wanna get my grazing done before evening milking... : MOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

We were told that we can't donate blood. It takes too long for a RNY pt. to re-coup from giving blood. Check with your doctor again. --Kelly

thanks for your replies. Stephanie you are crazy girl. I have to get lab work before my next appt on May 2nd so I'd better wait and ask the doctor. The blood connection calls my house about twice a week and my hubby said either donate or tell them to take you off the list.

I've donated a couple times with no problems. Not sure why the surgery would affect your normal ability to recover from blood loss....or why we'd be different than someone who hasn't had the surgery.

Stephanie, I'm Scottish so I can't donate either...so we can be mad cows together I think we need to be careful because we can get anemic through malabsorption our iron and b12 levels affect red blood cell production, and low protein can have an effect too but if our hemoglobin is within normal range then i think if your doctor OKs it you should be good to go Lesley
