Thyroid meds after surgery.

Has anyone had any problems with their thyroid medicine not getting absorbed after surgery? I am grasping at straws trying to figure out why my weight loss has been so slow. I just had my blood work done last Friday and will be going to my PCP Thursday to see what my results were, but until then I just need to find out if it has been a problem for anyone else. I am experiencing the same old symptoms of feeling tired, being horribly cold and my skin being so dried out. My eyebrows and all my other body hair (I haven't had to shave my legs in two months) have been falling out but I was blaming that on the surgery even though that is a symptom of thyroid problems, also. My hair on my head isn't coming out much at all so I'm hoping it's the meds not getting into my system like they should be. Mary

I think you may be right about your meds. Even though my hair fell out in handfuls, I never had that problem anywhere else on my body. Still have to shave everywhere else. I don't have thyroid problems, so I bet it is what you think. Definitely talk to your doc. Kathy

I've been on thryoid meds since having mine removed last year. I had my surgery one day before you, and my weight loss has been a little slower than most folks too, so I've blamed that on my non-thyroid just because it sounds good to me. I average loosing 2 - 3 pounds a week. I haven't had any blood work done since my surgery, i've got to get it done before my 6 month appt so I don't know how my levels are either. My hair on my head is coming out by the handfuls, but no other part of my body. Maybe when you get your blood work done it will give you an idea of what is going on.

I never thought about that before but I bet that's part of the reason why I am losing so slowly also. I'm 4 months out (tomorrow) and I've only lost 50 lbs. I'm lucky if I lose 3 lbs a week - it's usually like 1.5 lbs a week! Let me know what you find out and if there is something different we can take that is better absorbed. Thanks, Susan

Ive been on tyroid med for years and I went in January for blood work and she had to lower my med. So mine is being absorb like it should. So no I havent had any problems. Hope things work out for ya.

My doctor lowered my dose in November and I haven't been able to lose anything since then. I went and had blood work done and she says the levels are fine...but I feel tired and I can't lose anymore weight - very frustrating! Not much help, I know....Hope you find out what is going on with you! Susann

I'M REALLY BEHIND ON ANSWERING E-MAILS, MS SUSANN ... SORRY ... SO SORRY THAT YOU ARE HITTING A WALL RIGHT NOW. I KNOW YOU ARE WORKING SO DELIGENTLY ON YOUR EXERCISING (putting me to shame!) ... KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC EFFORTS! WE'LL FIGURE THIS OUT ... IN JAN, I DID FANTASTICALLY & FINALLY GOT INTO THE 160s (just barely ), THEN COME FEBRUARY & IT WAS LIKE MY BODY SAID, "OH NOOOOOOOOOO YOU DON'T!" & I HAVE BEEN BETWEEN 169 - 174 SINCE THEN FOR A MONTH & A HALF ... I JUST WANTED TO CRY ... OH YEAH, I DID CRY SEVERAL TIMES STANDING ON THOSE SCALES ... BUT, THEN LIKE YOU, WE HAVE TO REALIZE THAT WE HAVE ALREADY LOST A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF WEIGHT & JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE IN THE "DIETING" WORLD, THOSE LAST FEW #s ARE A BUGGER TO GET OFF! DON'T GIVE UP! YOU'VE DONE FABULOUSLY & YOU LOOK FANTASTIC ... WOW, WHAT CHANGES YOU'VE GONE THROUGH! GOD BLESS YOU ... DAWN & NICk
