What to expect?

Hey Sariah
! Congrats on becoming a loser tomorrow. I know I went through the entire range of emotions up until the night before then a calm came over me and I was ready. With your surgery so late in the afternoon, you are going to go NUTS
. I had to be scoped a year after my surgery, I had some scar tissue starting to form that needed to be cut (nothing big) and my surgery was not until 1pm. I thought I would go out of my mind with waiting. Go to your favorite movie store and rent some movies to occupy your mind until you need to go in. I know that would help me. When you get there you will checked in, and in a bit taken back, your IV will be started, you will talk to just about everyone, they will give you a ****tail of meds that will relax you and then you will taken into the OR. I remember some of the prepping in the OR, but not much. Then you will wake up a loser! I woke up with no pain or nausea but a lot of people I know did have some pain and nausea. But you will get through it. This is the start of an exciting journey and we are saving you a seat on the losers bench.
Remember you are in the best hands! Dr Byrne is wonderful, his staff is wonderful and they will take wonderful care of you. Congrats again and have someone keep us posted. Julie
I can go the distance... I do not care how far... I know every mile will be worth my while.
My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my DOGS already think I am!

It's here, Sariah!! Tomorrow is the beginning of your new life!
I can only tell you what my experience was like so you won't be nervous or scared. First of all - the MUSC staff is awesome - every one that I dealt with was kind & caring. Yes, you do have a challenge in that your time isn't 'til 2pm, but NO BIGGIE! You can handle it! Mine was at 10, so I had to be there by 8:30 for all the prep (which consisted of getting undressed & an IV). I remember being wheeled to surgery, getting on the table & that was it! I did see Dr. B for about 10 seconds before they wheeled me up. LOL! He IS a busy man!
The next thing I remember was being in my room. I had 5 tiny "stab" wounds & the Jackson-Pratt drain (looks weird, but very necessary). I didn't hurt, but just felt uncomfortable due to the gas & anesthesia. I used the morphine drip as little as possible and they took it the next afternoon. They WILL give you whatever they can to make you comfortable. I got up & sat on the side of the bed as soon as possible. Then I started walking. I even took a shower as soon as they said okay. IT FELT LIKE HEAVEN!
Very seriously, Sariah - this process is 10% physical change & 90% psychological. I was determined from the beginning to make this a good & positive experiene. I would NOT let myself get depressed or let others affect the way I felt. I want this to work more than anything else in the world, so I pray & pray & pray & smile & smile & smile - and you know what? It works!
God bless you, sweetie - I will be praying for you & waiting to hear your great results!!
Love & Hugs,
Hellen Hi Sariah. Sorry I am late in responding...wasn't able to get on the Boards...boy, the expect me to work at work, can you believe that. Anyway, I don't remember a whole lot about my surgery day....which is what you will do after about 6 months. I had the first surgery of the day, so I didn't have to wait at all...and I was out of it after that. I do know/remember that the nurses are great and will do everything in their power to keep you comfortable. And, you are in wonderful hands with Dr. B. He is great and we all love him! Good Luck this afternoon. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Next time you post you will be on the Loser's side....welcome!@
