NG TUBE
I'VE BEEN CHECKING INTO MEDIC ALERT BRACELETS/NECKLACES. ONE OF THE THINGS I'VE HEARD IS THAT GASTRIC BYPASS PATIENTS SHOULD NOT EVER BE INTUBATED ON THE CHANGE THEY MAY TEAR OUR POUCH. I'VE SEEN WHERE LADIES SAY THEY PUT "NO NG TUBE" ON THEIR MEDIC ALERT BRACELETS.
WHAT IS AN NG TUBE & DOES IT HAVE TO DO WITH INTUBATION?
THANKS OH WISE ONES!!!!!!!!
GOD BLESS
DAWN & NICK

It's a Nasogastric tube, and yep, it's intubation. I've heard both suggestions, some say get one and some say dont. I've been told that our tummies are completely healed (in most cases, I guess) within 3 months and that after that the NG tube wouldn't have any more of a chance of puncturing the bottom of them than a normal tummy. Don't know if that's true or not, just passing along info I've heard or read somewhere...
I'm not getting one, I guess, I'm bad about wearing jewelry anyway, I can barely remember my wedding rings most days!

THANKS FOR THE INFO, MS REBECCA. GUESS THIS IS ONE OF THOSE QUESTIONS FOR DR B. I HAVE HIS NURSE'S E-MAIL ADDRESS SO I'LL DROP HER A LINE & SEE WHAT SHE SAYS.
I FIGURED I'D BETTER GET ONE WITH THE GB + MY HEART ISSUES & RX ALLERGIES ... BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY. I WORE ONE FOR A LONG TIME, THEN GOT OUT OF THE HABIT. THEY HAVE REALLY PRETTY BRACELETS NOW WITH THE MEDIC ALERT TAG ATTACHED.
GOD BLESS

NG Tubes are what goes into your nose and then into your tummy to drain off secretions. If someone put one in your nose to your tummy while you were in surgery or unconsious and did not know about the pouch, they would tear right through it. The measurement used is from your nose, to elbow and then hand to know how much tubing to use. That is for the normal stomach.
I have a med alert bracelet, looks like the Tiffany's heart one with that on it. I always forget to wear it though, not even sure where it is at the moment....oops.
So, we should get one and WEAR IT!!
Hope that helps ya!! Intubation is also a concern...sometimes, but they are supposed to stop short of your esophogus.
Deborah

Mine says : Gastric Bypass
NO NG TUBES
Dr Byrne and his phone number
and my hubby's phone number
and my name on the top
I ordered it online at medic alert.com I think....google it. I just was looking for something pretty, not like a big medic bracelet.
I wish I had one that said no NSAIDS that is ibuprofen and advil stuff that causes ulcers
Hey, my nursing school stuff is paying off. BTW, NG tubes and Intubation are 2 separate things, Intubation is not supposed to go further than your brochial openings/lungs, and NG tub is short for Naso Gastric tube, like some of us had after surgery. We all had one in our old tummy, but they yanked it out before we woke up...just in case you did not know. I don't remember mine!
Hope this helps more...PS we all must have been online at the same time answering back, ha ha.
