I have SC Medicaid.. I did the 6 month diet, after that it was SUPER FAST! Medicaid appoved me 1 week to the day that the dr submitted my letter. HANG IN THERE.. I am 3 months out now.. everything is on my blog if you wanna go read it. I was very impressed with medicaid, the hardest part was waiting the 6 months.

Just wondering if the 6 month medically supervised diet is required?

I have a BMI of 41 with a co-morbidity...also an extensive documented record of past weight loss attempts, physician visits over the last 2 years, attended TOPS meetings for 3 years, etc... Do you think this will qualify me ?

I called Medicaid...the rep says the 6 months of consecutive visits is not required but she sounded like she didn't know what she was talking about :)

TIA!

Topic: Bougie size
Hi everyone,  I'm planning to have VSG surgery at the

SC Obesity Surgery Center in Columbia. I've been reading about the different bougie sizes used, and someone told me the 32f bougie is the best you can get.  Is this true? Does size even matter? Does anybody know what the doctors at the SC Obesity Surgery Center use.  I'm new to all of this and any info would be helpful. -Thanks. GM

I actually had my VSG back on 1/11/10 and everything went well!  Dr. Tribble performed the surgery and Dr. *****ett assisted - per my request.  Dr. Tribble was great.  He was very professional but at the same time very approachable and caring which put me at great ease.  I would recommend them highly.  The staff at Palmetto Baptist were very attentive and helpful in every way.  You can rest assured that they'll take good care of you.  I hope your surgery goes well and that you have a speedy recovery!

Monique

BTW, what type of surgery are you having?

Topic: Don't know what to do!
Hi, my name is Emily...I'm new on here. First let me tell you a little about myself. I am 21 years old, and just recently moved back in with my mother after losing my job. That's not why I am here, I am here because I am 21 years old, 5 ft. 6 in, and I weigh 305lbs. I have a family history of heart disease (My father died of a massive heart attack at the age of 42.) Also high blood pressure and cancer. When I was 15 years old, my gynocologist diagnosed me polycystic ovarian syndrome, and my family doctor at the time told me my problem was depression and put me on depression medication. The same family doctor had tried to help me lose weight, and when nothing worked, my mother and I wanted to know more about weight loss surgery and he would have none of it. He said he would absolutley never give me a referral, even if a surgeon happened to accept me as a patient. Now, I am no longer allowed to be carried under my mother's insurance because I am over 18, and am not in high school. I'm scared to death that I'm going to end up like my Dad and have a heart attack at an early age and so sick of not being able to do the simplest things like shave my legs without a struggle. And I don't want to be a charity case, but my BMI is 49 and I have no health insurance, and with the way the economy is, I don't have a job either (trying as hard as I can to find one) Any advice on some sort of clinic or a doctor that might be able to help would be greatly appreciated.

I have Dr. *****ette I've seen him twice now and felt very comfortable with him. He is great with making you feel confident and answering any questions you have. I talked with Dr. Tribble at the seminar and he too was great. I go in for my surgery next week and wouldn't change my surgeon for anything!
