Topic: RE: SC State BCBS Insurance?
I have BCBS, I work for the county government, so I'm not sure about other forms of BCBS, but they paid almost 100% of my surgery. I had met my out of pocket for the year already, so I think I ended up paying about $300 due to something lab related that was out of network. I could have argued that charge I suppose, but I was so grateful that they had paid everything else that I gladly wrote a check for it.

As far as I know, BCBS will not cover any type of WLS.  I have a friend that wants to get the surgery, but BCBS will not cover it.  If she wants the surgery, she will have to self pay.  I do not know anyone who has tried to appeal their decision, but I am sure there is someone out there.  I also have a co-worker who said that she was lucky she had BCBS Alabama through her husband's employer because BCBS South Carolina will not.

Sorry I could not be more help.  Hopefully someone else will chime in with their experiences.

Topic: RE: I just ran my THIRD marathon
I hope you get to see Dr. Bour at your check-up next week. I had to see one of the other doctors and I wasn't that thrilled with him. I had gained 5 pounds since my lowest weight and I don't feel like he was at all sympathetic or very helpful. Only thing he told me was to exercise and buy a heart rate monitor to wear during exercise. I already know I don't exercise enough or the way they want us to, and unlike you, I don't get into running or doing much during hot weather. I know it's an excuse but I'm not going to lie and say I love it and do it several times a week when I don't. I am very active at work so it's not like I am sitting on my azz all day.
Anyway, I mentioned my hernia to him and the fact I know I need to get it repaired, but I work at St. Francis and don't want to pay out of pocket to go to Hillcrest hospital for them to do it, so his answer to me, after a long pause, was........." Gee, I honestly can't say there is any doctor that goes to your hospital that I would reccomend". He also made a snide comment about our new bariatric program that Dr. Anderson is doing, and said " good luck with it, it won't work". Well, I hate to tell him but, we have a very succesful program so far, and there is no fee attached to it.
So, as you can tell, I wan't that thrilled with the visit there this time. I hope yours goes better.
Take care and congratulations on the marathon, your awsome!!!

Hugs!
Mary

Hi Kathy

I go back next week for my 30 months appt. But--if I were you, I would give them a call. They know mistakes happen, we would not have had the surgery if we did not make alot of mistakes..and we are far from perfect after surgery so call Monday-ask for an appt with a nutritionist and tell them-I need help getting back on course...theres no shame, nothing to fell bad about

Think of it this way, if we never had the surgery, and were only 20lbs overweight ....we'll fall off the wagon at some point and go up to 40lbs overweight and say--oopsy, I need to diet

With Dr Bour and staff-you have professional people willing to help. Take advantage of it!!

Good luck-I hope it works out well for you

Chris

Topic: DS for SC Patients
Has anyone from South Carolina have the DS?  If so, what surgeon did you go see?  I've been considering getting the RNY, but now I'm seeing so much information about the DS that is peaking my curiousity.  I had never really heard of it before, but it's definitely something I'd like to look more into.

Thanks!
