Topic: I don't like food anymore - Having a hard time finding something to eat.
Hi guys. It's been a while since I've posted. I haven't had a lot of time and what little time I do have is spent on World of Warcraft. (I'm addicted :P) I'm a little over 2 months out of surgery and I gotta say, everything has went perfectly. I've lost close to 60 pounds and I'm finally under 300 pounds again. I'm looking better and more importantly, feeling better.
My only problem is, I no longer like food. Hardly anything appeals to me. I can eat pretty much anything, with the exception of really rich, sweet stuff, which gives me dumping syndrome. If you've never had that, OMG it sucks so bad. And there's the bread and pasta stuff, which if I eat that stuff, it feels like my pouch is going to burst coz it expands after I eat it. I try to take my vitamins every day, but I tend to foget a lot of times. I don't take the protien supplements, because honestly, I haven't had any problem in that area. I have energy, and my hair isn't falling out so I figure I'm good there.
I just need to find soemthing that I can eat and actually enjoy. It's like I have to force myself to eat. I get hungry, but nothing appeals to me, with the exception of a few things and I either can't afford to eat that stuff all the time (El Titanic Mexican in Belton - LOVE that place) or if it is something that I don't mind eating, I'll get sick of it after eating it all the time.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Glad I could help some, as for diet coke yeah it will eat away at your stomach lining sooner or later it will cause an ulcer in the weakend tissue. I smoke and I wished that was something I never started back after surgery.. It's a nasty habit..
I'm not much of a chocolate eater I'm a crackers and pb girl and live alot of times just on those.... You have done a great job and you're right things aren't so bad when we stop and think about how far we've come and all the health issues we've gotten rid of....

You all have been sooo helpful! Thank you all! Stephie, I guess I will cut the carbonation back out and see what happens. I did not realize the diet coke could cause ulcers. Also, I am not really a smoker but I do smoke sometimes so I am not going to do that either. I have already stopped with the chocolate truffles and cut back down on the bread some. I guess I just have to take better care of myself. It is sometimes depressing to think of all the things we can't have but I need to remind myself of all the things I have gained...lost almost 100 lbs, down to a size 10 from a 20, no more heart meds, less arthritic pain in my knees, met the love of my life. Okay, maybe things aren't so bad. :)
Topic: I'm still alive with news
Hi all,
I'm still alive and kicking, I've finally gotten weight back up and it's holding at 115. With the passing of my brother in Feb. I've changed a lot about myself..
One thing I've not done in the past that I'd like to do now, is thank you guys for telling me what's what when I really needed to be told the hard truth. I'm not online a lot these days due to still being layed off from my job and I've not been able to get to my support group in Spartanburg and I miss those ladies....
My eatting disorder is almost under control, and I'm learning to deal with my body image issues, I will be starting college May finally after putting it off and trying to get past my age of 42 and going back to school, but I'm going for RN hopefully I can make my major in Oncology or Bariatrics...
Well that's all I know that's changed so far except I got my tat to honor my brother Troy, he would have been 44 April.
So how is everyone come out Greenville group I know you're hanging around somewhere...
Miss you all
Good luck and hope everyone's journeys takes them to the highs they want and great success in the end...

Hi Sunnie
I'm going on 3 years out. and I was going through some of the same things you're having. I found out the hard way that diet coke will dehydrate you really fast, I was having the dizzy and tired feelings alot and my blood pressure wa****ting very low.. I cut out the diet coke and alot of carbs and now those feelings are gone... As for the gurgling and diarrhea I think might be coming from a sudden rush of liquids into the intestines, mine will do that if I have drunk a soda on an empty stomach and also if it's been awhile during the day that I've not had any water...
But I'm with Mary if it's really bothersome, please contact your doctor... Also be very careful with soda and the formation of ulcers, they're very painful...
Good luck sweetie

Thanks so much for letting me know that you experience this too. I wonder too if it has anything to do with the fact that I recently started drinking diet soda. I had avoided carbonation all together since the surgery but over the last few months have started enjoying diet coke quite a bit. Do you feel like an alien instead of a human? I mean, nothing is the same in our bodies anymore. I knew that going in I guess but it did not become really clear to me until afterwords. I am just tired of feeling bad all the time Mary. This was supposed to be a good change in my life!!!
Topic: RE: Any support group near Conway SC?
Hi,
Yes there is one in Conway, We meet every third Tuesday. If you go to www.advancedsurgicalassociates.com it will give you place and time. I need to start going also. I started a new job and have meetings on that day, but I need to start going. So I hope to see you there.

I am 3 1/2 years out and experience some of the same things on occasion. I can eat a particular food many times with no problems, then suddenly, out of the blue, it will cause dumping. I know it has everything to do with how our new system processes carbs and sugars and all I can figure out is that at certain times we don't process it right, maybe because we shouldn't be eating it, lol. It is so much like diabetic insulin reactions in the way it makes us feel, so I'm just guessing that is what it is. It seems very common place with a lot of RYN patients. Call your doctor if your really worried, but I bet they will tell you its all in what your eating.

Thank you for your reply. I have only gained about 4 lbs. back thus far but it scares me to think about going back to the way I was. Also, feeling bad physically all the time is taking a toll on me. I appreciate your letting me know I am not alone and I will keep your situation in my thoughts.
