Topic: RE: Question
Since everyone has totally different experiences after surgery, I don't think it can be answered and  pertain to everyone. Personally, my food choices didn't change much, other than not eating junk foods, which aren't good for anyone anyway. I still enjoy an occasional bite or two of cakes, cookies, etc. and again you might not be able to eat any of those due to dumping. I can eat just about anything that I could before surgery, although sometimes I wish I couldn't tolerate some of them. Other than eating smaller portions you should find you can eat pretty much the same things the kids eat. It wouldn't hurt the whole family to learn to eat healthier after your surgery. All of you should learn to eat things with no or low fat, baked, broiled, stewed, steamed, meats and vegetables. Stay away from fried foods and definetly sugar. You might find that your surgery will be helping your entire family as you learn how to eat right. Hopefully all of you will adjust quickly.

Hugs!
Mary

Topic: RE: Program Fees
My program fee was $500.00 total. I paid $250.00 on the first office visit and the other $250.00 at the appointment before the surgery. It was well worth it because it covered my fills for 90 days and any follow up care for 90 days they did not bill my insurance.

yes that is what I paid when I got my RealizeBand. It's well worth it because the care that you get in that office from Ms. Judy is out of this world.

Topic: RE: 1 Year Surgiversary
I'm 18 months out from surgery.  I had a somewhat unusual cir****tance and body shape.  I lost 30 pounds pre-surgery and was at 306 the day of surgery.  With a daily walking program of 3+ miles, I lost 100 pounds in five months. I had my first plastic surgery at 5 months (had 25 pounds of skin removed).  I was basically at my target weight at that time.  I continued to lose weigh and ultimately got down to 146.  I looked like death warmed over.  With help from my plastic surgeon and my nutritionist, I was able to gain about 20 pounds (try doing that on 1/2 cup of food per meal).  I'm now at 165-170 and feeling great.  And looking good, too.  I have maintained my weight for the last year with no problems or setbacks.

I, too, would do it all over again.  I had my tonsils and uvula removed in December, 08, to cure my sleep apnea.  No more CPAP, prescription drugs, or insulin.  Just my daily vitamins.

The only thing I miss is eating for pleasure and being able to really enjoy a meal.  Some things taste really good and just as I get a good feeling from the taste of something, I'm full and have to stop.  The good part is being able to eat leftovers for several more meals.

Topic: RE: What can I do to get a leg up?
Check with your OB/GYN and see if he will do it.  My insurance company would not allow the bariatric surgens offic to do the 6 month diet.   My PCP is wonderful and is willing to do whatever I need to do, but the insurance company would accept GP, PCP, internal medicine doctor or OB/GYN.  They would also accept Weigh****chers or Jenny Craig, but you still had to have check in - weigh ins with your regular doctor along with your WW documentation check ins so I did not see the point in paying for both as WW charges $11 week just to stand on the scales.  I did WW for 6 weeks before I found out that it in itself was not sufficient for my insurance.  I have BCBS of Ala.

Topic: RE: Six month diet
It depends on what your insurance company will allow.  I have BCBS of Alabama and they require 6 months diet monitored by someone other than the bariatric surgeon.  So I started with my PCP and you have to check in and be weighed at least once a month for 6 consecutive months.  If you skip a month, you have to start over. So make sure to check in each and every month for the 6 months.

Topic: RE: Blue Cross Blue Shield State Health Plan
There was someone at the seminar that I went to who had State Health Plan BCBS and he said that he was told the same thing.  They would not pay no matter what, no way, no how, period.  So he is going to pursue it as self pay.    My husband's company has BCBS but it is BCBS of Alabama and not SC thank goodness.  There were no exclusions on his policy, so they will pay, if I meet the medical criteria.  I have to do a 6 month doctor supervised diet first.

Topic: Question
I started the 6 month diet history last month and am anxiously looking forward to getting the RNY.  But my question is this... I am a single mother of 2 small girls.  is there anyone else out there and how does having the surgery affect the food you fix them?  Do they end up eating more along the lines of what you eat or do you fix them their own meals different than yours? what do you do?
