A Question?

Hi All, I am having trouble getting in all of my protein everyday. I'm just not hungry and when I do eat the food is basically tasteless to me. I'm using a protein supplement and eating eggs for breakfast. It's just that after about Noon or so I don't get hungry anymore. And when I do finally find something that has taste to it I have to chew it so many times it really becomes gross tasting. If anyone has experienced this please let me know. I don't want to think I'm the only one. Thanks for all your Help. Larry,

Larry, I think this is pretty normal. We just have to keep on trying. I know the feeling about everything tasting bad. I use to love chicken, but now it taste really BAD! LOL!! May I ask how much weight you have lost so far? Are you still glad you had the surgery? I wouldn't take anything for mine. I hope this stage will soon pass where we can eat & enjoy it again. I know it will, but waiting patiently is hard sometimes. Best of luck to you. Sara.

Sara, So far at my first follow-up appointment on July 6, I have lost 36lbs. Yea I'm glad I had the surgery, ecspecially when I think about my new longer and healthier life I'm going to have. But sometimes when around friends and family and they are enjoying their meals it gets kind of hard but that is to be expected. But I also have the love and support of my fiance', because we are going through this together. She will be a year out from her surgery on July 18. I just hope that my taste comes back soon because I loved chicken and turkey before surgery and after not being able to taste my baked lemon pepper chicken lastnight it kind of got me down. But anyways thanks for replying. And thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one going through this. Larry,

You know Larry I'm not near as far out as you are but I just don't get hungry. I have a hard time getting in the protein and the fluids but I just keep plugging away. Food does not taste good therefore you are reluctant to eat but we know we must. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would ever not like chocolate but.........I can't stand to think about eating anything with chocolate in it. Before surgery I was on the prep for 4 days which was Carnation instant breakfast 6 times a day. I had no problem sticking to it because I just loved chocolate. I wonder if that is why I don't like it now......Terry Hang in there Larry!!!! We can do this!!!!

Terry, Yea I know what you mean. I mean I think about all the food I ate before surgery and while it sounds good to me at the moment if I really think about it I start getting a little sick. I am having no trouble getting in my liquids. I'm starting to love water more than anything else. But it's just the protein that is kicking my butt. But I'm hanging in there and I'm eating protein from when I wake up till I go to bed just to get at least 60 grams in. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm actually starting to like the Kroger brand Carb Master yogurt. I think I'm going to borrow my fiance's bariactric cookbook so that I can add a little variety to the menu. That could be a big part of it eating chicken, turkey, tuna and salmon so many times over and over. Well Thank you Terry and You hang in there too we'll get through this one way or another. Thanks, Larry

Hi Larry, I would say you are on puree or soft foods. When you think of protein, don't forget ground up chicken replaces hamburger, and you can get that from Krogers. I don't use protein powders, I get it in my foods, like the other night, we had pinto beans(protein), I had cottage cheese instead of fried potatoes (protein), and a fruit salad of just strawberries, grapes, and pineapple chunks. A frozen waffle with sf syrup is protein. A pancake with just sf syrup is protein. Peanut butter, is protein. When you can get farther out, nuts have protein. Not recommended for you at this time. Even at 6 months out, I still am not able to have nuts. Try using unflavored protein powders in sf jello, soups, water. That might help you out better. I can never get in enough protein because of my leukemia, it keeps going straight into my urine. I do drink Boost, and that helps me out some. I don't know how else to help you, when I was about a month out, I could eat refried beans, with grated cheese on it. Protein. I could live on refriend beans. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Much love Kathy

Larry can I just tell you that I am sure things will get better for you in time. I am almost two weeks post op & smells that I loved pre op now makes me sick to my stomach. I LOVE water and always have the thing that bugs me now is that I can no longer drink the water as fast as I want to, well I can if I want to suffer with the pain after. But good luck to you Larry!
