Cheryl Update
Not much new to report. I spoke to Cheryl a few mins ago and they were giving her ANOTHER blood transfusion. Her mom rushed at left work early because the surgeon was supposed to be coming up but he did not show. She is very stressed and very upset and of course just wants this whole thing to be over with. Keep praying for her.

Oh Crap! I stay away too long and this is what happens. I haven't been around since last week because I went out of town and then came down with a stomach virus. I'm sooo sorry to read about Cheryl. Thanks for keeping us updated and she is in my prayers. I may head up there tomorrow after work and see if I can visit, if she is feeling up for it. Give me a buzz!

Hey Christine.....
I've been following these Cheryl posts since they began and I think it's time somebody gets over to that hospital as a patient advocate!!! The surgeon is not showing up, they keep putting bandaids on her hoping it will go away.....well it's not. Maybe her RNY surgeon should be there, I dunno, her PCP???? BUT I know she needs somebody LOUD and STRONG on her side.........WENDY???? I know that fits you well. I think it's time. JMHO. I'm still praying for her........... XOOXOXOXO
Sharon
She has the right to ask the hospital for another surgeon to help her (by law, she has that right), I think at this point it may be the way for her to get help that she needs. People fire doctors all the time. I've fired a few in my lifetime because of poor care and disregard. It's something she can do by asking for a patient advocate from the hospital to come to her room and discuss this issue. If it was me, that surgeon would already be long gone. This whole situation is almost making me jump in my car right now, it makes me angry.
Christine .. Please let her know I am still praying for her .
I agree with Jane ... I know is not a lot we can do from here .. but she needs some assistance .. and help .. it should never be one of those WTF MOMENTS for anyone . This is her life and this needs to come to a head ..
Please , Please let her know that I am sending positive energies her way ..
Hugs,
Natalie
Hey sweetie,
I visited with Cheryl and her wonderful grandparents today around lunch time. I'm amazed with how pale she was, and she was in so much pain. I was livid that she openly complained about how much her IV (blood transfusion) was hurting her, and the nurse basically poo-poo'd her concerned.. about 5 minutes later her arm started swelling.. well jeez-louise, DUH, something is NOT right.. the infusion isn't reaching the vain, its collecting under the skin.. She called the help button, the nurse said she'd be right in.. Cheryl said IMMEDIATELY.. um, we didn't see anyone, so Grandpa went to fetch one.. thank god. Nurse came in, stopped the infusion machine, and went to fetch new IV's.. NOT GOOD care.. i was totall unimpressed with Chesapeake General (as I was during my care for my RNY.. haven't been back since)
Anyway, Cheryl indicated that her SURGEON was supposed to come by LAST night, but didn't.. um, HELLO??? and he wasn't returning calls?? I dont f'n think so!
I left so the nurse could change Cheryl's IV, and pray that she will get some answers.
It totally baffles me that no one has done exploratory surgery, to find out whats going on in her belly.. She was so upset by the bloated belly, yet didn't feel any fluid retention in her hands.. this tells me, the non-medical expert, that something is swelling her belly, and since her blood levels keep dropping, it might just be internal bleeding, yes??
I hope the family is more adament on Cheryls behalf after I left, truly. She needs an advocate.
Christine, lemme know if she needs anything at all.. I'm 10 minutes from her while at work, and will happily come see her, sit with her, bring her anything.
I brought a protein drink, but I think the mere thought made her think of wretching LOL, but am concerned cuz her grandpa said she didn't even eat her broth for lunch.
Keep us informed woman!
Much love,
Wendy
