Recently I learned that my surgeon will place three drains. How long are the drains in place and do the drains go in to one recepticle? Thanks, Cindy

Cindy , Normally the drains are in your hip area . One on each side .. and one may come out of your Mons area ( Pubic Pad ) there are 3 drain holes not just one .  They stay in until your fluid gets to around 20 ccs per day . if you take them out sooner , you run the risk of a seroma ( fluid captured under the skin ) This is not what you want . The drains are a pain in the butt .. but you truly need them . They do not hurt , and they do not hurt when they come out .. just some slight pressure .  I have had 11 hernia repairs pre-gastric bypass .. and it was not that bad .  Please keep us posted on your recovery .  Natalie

Hi Tinker,   Thank you for the reply. How long dod your drains stay in? I'll be in the hospital 2 to 3 days. Are there 3 recepticles, one for each drain?   Cindy
