Couting down to Tuesday - the BIG day!!

Hi again everyone.  Thanks for such a warm welcome!  My big surgery day is Tuesday and now I'm REALLY getting nervous.  I'm at that point where I'm thinking....."what the heck am I doing???".  I know I will be so much better off after the surgery and am really looking forward to being healthy for once.  I think I've got all my stuff ready for the hospital and the house is stocked up with protein shake mixes, sugar free/fat free jello, broth, and my favorite diet green tea.  Am I missing anything?   I did see a comment somewhere about "bathroom issues" after surgery, which I'm assuming will be very similar to what I went through after having my gallbladder removed (laproscopic).  I think I'm prepared for that  (got some wipes, etc).  Sorry...don't want to get too detailed! Any last minute suggestions?  I haven't found anyone locally who's having surgery around the same time so that we can compare notes.  Thanks!

Good morning! Tuesday is just another day away! Nervous is completely normal. You are taking a major leap tomorrow! I STILL remember what it feels like and share in your nervousness. TMI (too much information) isn't common around here. We've all been there in one form or another so you're fine. I had Lap RNY and the bathroom issues weren't bad honestly. However, with other types of surgery (say open??) I'm sure its a bit tougher. Sounds like you are READY! Suggestion**** the floor for/with some knee-mail and give things to the Lord. He's going to see you through for sure. All best, bigs hugs and many blessings! You'll be in our thoughts & prayers!

You probably have already checked with your Doc, but are you sure that green tea is an approved post-surgery drink? My understanding is that green tea has a lot of caffeine. I could be confused here, but I thought caffeine was not good immediately after surgery.  Consider flavored SF water, like Fruit-2-Oh. Best wishes, Joe

Welcome and Congrats on your upcoming surgery! Being nervous and having those thoughts are completely normal. My best friend in the hospital was my mini-pillow from home...of course, I had open RNY, so the "cushion" helped when getting out of bed and walking. Bathroom issues were not that bad....honestly you'll pee more than anything for a few days. :-) (see no TMI!) I'm with Joe about the Green Tea...might want to check with the Dr. Caffeine tends to dehydrate us, which would be really awful soon after surgery, so you may want to hold off on that until you're getting all your other liquids and proteins in (I didn't have tea for 6+ months and now it's a rare treat). BUT, check with the Dr....he/she is the authority for your care instructions. Keep us posted....we'll be busy moving over on the losers bench for you!
