Mine would be  way back my parents split up when I was 5 years old and I didnt see my daddy for several years. My mother she is a wonderful mother and she raised 3 of us on her own and I myself am the best of 3 and Im not spreading it to thick so to speak. My brothers have no feelings when it comes to things like holidays , birthdays etc and Ill leave it at that. But when I was 7 or 8 I wanted one of those easybake ovens and I had ask  for it from santa and when xmas morning came I didnt get it :( this was the year I kinda figuered there was no santa clause  my daddy had came to visit us after a few years, and he brought me a easybake oven, and I was like hum wonder how he knew this. And one day we were at my grandmas house I said to her I wonder how my daddy knew how to bring me a easybake oven she said oh honey I told your daddy you wanted that  so we went shopping and bought it for you!! So I was like ok then there really isnt a santa clause and I hada younger brother so they tried for years to keep my mouth shut so he didnt know there wasnt a santa lol me keeping my mouth shut  to funny........ so now lets here your storys .

Well there are so many great Christmas memories for me I am not sure if I can pick just one favorite.  I will go with a funny one.  We went for years with the belief of Santa, to the point we would argue with the neighbor kids about it.  One year I finally did discover the truth.  My mom always wrapped our stocking gifts in special tissue paper, she would only use it for our stockings.  Well one year after being busy getting everything together etc. she left the tissue paper out on her bed christmas morning, and of course I wanted to know why she had Santa's special tissue paper.  Of course she had to tell me the truth.  Having a younger sister, I too had to go for years trying to keep the secret.  Boy was that hard.

My favorite Christmas memories are around getting up on Christmas morning. When my sister and I were still young we would wake up super early (I'm talking 4 or 4:30a) and go running into my parents bedroom to wake them up because "It's Christmas and Santa's been here!" (Of course we used to argue over who would wake dad...cause he snored really loud and was kinda scary when he woke up!) I'm sure my parents had just flopped into bed after wrapping, assembling and such but they were always great about ****il we got a bit older and were told to GO BACK TO BED UNTIL AT LEAST 7AM!!). My dad would get up and we'd have to wait in the hallway until he went to turn on the Christmas tree lights. Once the lights were on we were free to run in and start the frenzy. Again, as we got older we started the new tradition of taking turns opening one present at a time so we could all see each other open those special ones. After presents, mom would fix breakfast and then we'd all get ready to go to Grandma's house.....some things never change. I'll be at my Grandma's house for this Christmas. :-)

Oh That is such a sad story Melinda. I have sad and good memories - the first Christmas after my dad died - I was 13 - was very sad  - and very strange as I had a sister and two brothers all younger than me... But the funniest one was when we only had baked beans and fries for Christmas dinner...... (we were very poor and also this was in the UK where beans and fried were a staple then !))  My Aunt and her husband had come to join us for Christmas dinner. My mom had made the turkey and all of the trimmings and we all sat at the table which had been placed in the living room - (for special occasions).... after we had started eating my mom decided to move her place to the head part of the table so she could get in and out of the kitchen much easier  - she asked my uncle to pass her a stool - he lifted the stool over our dinner - taking great care not to touch any of the food - and smashed into the glass lights and casings above us - showering all the food and plates etc with tiny pieces of glass. Of course my mom had to throw everything away because the lights must have shattered into a thousand tiny peices - so we had dinner of beans and fries - which was all the food she had that would feed 8 people - and then after that we had christmas pudding and custard ( a UK thing)....It sure was a strange dinner but we all had a good laugh about it because if truth be known my mom was a terrible cook!! Her turkey was always well overdone and her other food had no taste as she did and still does not cook with any herbs or spices - so as kids we were actually delighted with the change of menu!! Heck I had to leave home before I discovered that chinese food is not nasty, fish was not shaped like a finger or stick, pizza was not really a yukky  foreign food, you could grill food instead of frying everything, meat did not have to be cooked until it was so well done you could sole your shoes with it, you could cook with herbs and spices and they actually enhanced your food - not covered up its taste! To this day, my mom still cooks the same way and refuses to try it any other way.... Thank goodness I now have my Christmas in America!!!! My mother in law can be a fantastic cook and I can cook too!! No beans and fries for me any more lol!! Jackie

Ok...this is more of my favorite Christmas story from my childhood and less of a favorite memory (because I do not remember it....) My Dad was in the military, and every year the ship would have a Christmas party for the kids.  Well, I was about 4 years old, and as always...we went. This particular year it was decided by someone who obviously does NOT have children that wheil the kids stand in line for Santa, they will be given their candy canes - COOL!!!! So, I get mine....suck on it as I patiently wait my turn.  COME IN ALREADY!!!!!! Finally, it's my turn.  So, as I sit on Santa's lap telling him how good I have been, my candy cane gets stuck in his beard - WHAT THE?!?!?!?!?! So, of course...I pul it out AND the whole beard too!!!!  YOU'RE NOT SANTA!!!!! The beard falls off in front of everyone. In the picture of me on Santa's lap....neither of us look real thrilled and there is a chunk of beard missing where the candy cane was.

I have lots of good Christmas memories.  When my grandma was alive we always had Christmas Eve with her and lots of family would show up.  Then after everyone was gone, we would drive around and look at the Christmas lights.  I know it sounds simple but I would give anything to have her here to share another Christmas.  Christmas is such a busy time for me.  A few years ago, between work and the ministry, we never got around to putting decorations on our tree.  I felt bad, but the kids did not seem to mind or alteast that is what they told me.  That same Christmas we did not have much money to spend on gifts but it was one of the best Christmas's we ever had.  My pastor cooked a big meal on Christmas Eve morning and made to go plates for some senior citizens in our church and community and asked my family to deliver them.  We were out for about 6 hours delivering food.  It was fun, we went all over our city.  Everyone was so grateful and nobody wanted us to leave.  We saw that most did not have a tree or any decorations.  For a few of them, we were the only visitors they had for Christmas.  The ones in the nursing homes really touched my heart.  We did not have many gifts and we did not have time to decorate our tree but we had each other and that seemed like enough for me.  My kids are great, they never complain about the amount of gifts.  I am looking forward to visiting some of those same people this Christmas.

One of my favorite Christmas memories is having to take a nap on the afternoon of Christmas Eve in anticipation of going to my aunt and uncle's house for Christmas Eve dinner.   When we would return home that night, Santa had come and left our BIG gift and our filled stockings.  Years later I learned that Mom and Dad had a neighbor come over after we left for dinner and set everything up.   As children, my brothers and I really thought that Santa had come while we were gone.  One year after our nap, my oldest brother swore he heard Santa's sleigh on our roof since he couldn't sleep because he was so excited.  My younger brother and I were mad because we both fell asleep and missed hearing Santa on the roof!!! Mom and Dad always made Christmas special for us.  One year we all three got bikes for Christmas and they were set up in our bedrooms when we returned from dinner at the relative's house.  Dad made us all go to our rooms and hang up our coats before opening presents and we were upset by that and just threw them on our beds without turning on our lights.  He made us go back and actually hang them up.  When we turned on the lights, voila, there stood our brand new bikes!!!  Another year, he made a treasure map with clues that led us to another clue until eventually we found our BIG gift from Santa.  Christmas was always magical at our house!!!  I am really thankful for all those wonderful memories!!! They will last a lifetime!!!!

Ok a litlte sad and funny... I was about 10 years old.. with blonde hair in my pj's christmas morning. I was sick with the fu and was determined to make it through opening gifts.. we start opening gifts so far so good.... I opened up a gift from an aunt it was a set of mugs... and well..I thought how weird .. mugs.. then my stomach turned and   Thank goodness they were mugs... The family joke then became that *I* didn't like the gift or it made me sick.... *ahhh sigh*
