Morning All!

Good morning everyone.  I just thought I'd send some morning cheer around.  Well, at leas as much cheer as I can muster up at 630am!!  I start work early...  HMPH. I'm on day 10 of my pre-op liquid diet and it has been emotional hell.  Thankfully, I can honestly say I've not been that hungry.  I guess all those nasty pre-packaged shakes are doing the job of keeping the hunger at bay.  But I tend to always THINK about food.  I seriously started salivating thinking about the full liquid diet to come post-op.  HA HA.  Who would have thought I would welcome the day of only eating cream of something soups.  HA HA. I'm very excited about surgery but also scared.  I figure it's all fairly common at this point.  I just can't believe Monday is the day!  YEAY!! I can't wait until the weekend to get the last of my christmas shopping done before surgery and get a few extra things in preparation for my new dietary needs.  At least I HOPE that I can get all my shopping done.  :) I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL day and rest of the week! Good am Lauren & all - Thanks for sending some morning cheer for sure! Its real chilly out this am but makes for interesting ways to stay warm. I get to giggling at the kids at the bus stop who still think fashion is the way to go when its freezing. Thankfully my oldest bugga Kayla is like yeah mom its cold I'm wearing jeans & a sweatshirt. SMART GAL!  Hope your 10 days of pre-op liquid gets better. Think of it as a temporary annoyance. The thinking thing is a PIA (pain in the a swirly swirly)!!!! Just know the cream of's passese too. You WILL be able to eat all kinds of wonderful foods. You just are going to retrain yourself & hopefully your thinking to get to where you need to be. Your excitement & fears are NORMAL! No worries there. BELIEVE IT!  Big hugs & lotsa prayers coming your way to get all you need done & on your way for Monday! All best....

Lauren, You are well on your way on the most difficult part of your journey, and your life will never be the same (fortunately, it will be much better). BTW, check with your Nut, but I don't think "cream of ..." soups will be on your approved list. I doubt you could stand to smell them, much less keep them down.  I suggest broth, SF jello, SF popsicles, water, Fruit 2 Oh.  God bless you. Joe Bear

Lauren best wishes coming your way for your up coming  surgery and the best choice you will have made for your life. May God be with you during the Holiday Season and also like the others have said check with your nutr. we are all different  and after a certain time I did do the the cream soups as well as broths but that all depends on your Dr's and YOU amd YOUR pouch we all work differently believe me Ive learned that over the 2 years what I can tolerate you might not and  someone else may or what you might tolerate we might not it all depends. I can tolerate roast beef cooked no mater how you cook it  and before surgery I could eat it anyway, and Ive heard others  who eat it all the time but everytime I do guarenteed Im in the bathroom sick as a dog, Chicken has got to be fixed a certain way as well if its not fixed right it makes me ill as well. Its crazy but I can eat some chinese and others cant  so its all in our bodies. So check with the nutr. thats what there  paid for  and for the most  just Listen to your DR do as he says and follow his rules.    God Bless and  we will see you on the loosers bench next week kiddo......

Good morning Lauren! I know the liquid diet can be hard. Are you sure you are supposed to be drinking Cream soups? After surhery I know that is not on most of our lists as they are pretty high in calories compared to other more nutritious soups.... Sadly the surgery is only on our stomach and not our minds so you will need to find a way to not think about food all of the time - it is hard for all of us but can be done. Head hunger is a powerful thing! Even if you don't get all your shopping done by Monday you will be up and about within a week or so and can still direct others to help you shop. I, too, am having surgery on Monday - but mine is plastic surgery ....... so good luck to both of us!! Jackie

Good Morning Lauren!!!!  Definitely a cheerful wonderful day!  I am staring at the window at the beautiful flurries, hoping for more. So the liquid diet is tough (so I hear, didn't have to do it myself).  But you are on day 10 with only a few more to go so you are over the hump so to speak.  Keep up the great work.  Keeping a positive attitude is a key part of the success.  And as other said, it may seem like the worst thing in the world, and you hate it but it is temporary and you will get past it. As the others mentioned what your diet is after surgery does depend on your surgeon/nut. program, what you can tolerate and the choices you make.  I am sure you are researching everything and getting info from your surgeon and know what to do.  If they allow the cream soups then go for it, if you can tolerate it.  Shop around for healthier choices that are lower in sodium, fat, etc.  Get some unflavored protein & add it to the soups to get yourself the extra boost of protein.  As Joe mentioned some other options if you can't do the soups, broth, jello, applesauce, oatmeal, protein drinks, etc.  The first few weeks as you are doing liquids, then soft foods, etc can be dificult.  I struggled with my emotions because it was hard having to prepare myself different foods then everyone else, stay on schedule around daily activities, and such but it does get better & once you get on that schedule it becomes routine.

So the nerves are definitely normal.  Most everyone goes through it.  Monday will be here before you know it & we will be welcoming you over to the losing side.  Don't worry too much about all those chores & shopping.  In about a week or so you will feel better & be out & about.  I had surgery on Wednesday, home on Friday, out shopping with my mom for Christmas stuff on Sunday.  Enjoy your week and try not to let the anticipation get to you.

Thank you everyone!  I did double check after everyone's comment on maybe no cream soups.  It appears that it is listed on only the two week post op full liquid diet.  I will be sure to check on that at my nutrionist appt, but assume you are right and maybe after the initial period the high caloric soups will not be suggested?

Good Morning Lauren I can almost feel your excitement in your post from yesterday.  Yes, it is normal to be scared at this stage in your journey.  I hope your surgery goes well and you have a speedy recovery.  You are very wise to get your Christmas shopping done prior to surgery.  That will be a big help for you.  Come back here often and let us know how you are doing.   hagd
