MY STEP SON'S CHRISTMAS PARTY

SWEET Tink
on 12/14/07 10:14 pm
Yesterday was a very enlightening day for me . My step son is 20 years old . He is mentally retarded , suffers from cerebral palsy , tube fed and a host of other medical challenges . By time charts , they tell us he should have died when he was 16 ?? His mother takes great care of him , and Jordan is a true miracle .   I was invited to Jordies Christmas party .. where we did a host of activities , crafts , sang carols and took a visit from Santa . My heart was flooded ..the emotions I had I cannot describe. The Mom's of these children , where no different than I was with my children at their parties .. they all want the same things I did for mine . What I found so moving was the teachers of these children . Many could have been teachers of a public school , but choose to work with these angels .   I truly learned yesterday what it means when someone says , " God does not give you more than you can handle " These people where beyond extraordinary . I seen in the faces of these children , my own children . I seen my grandchildren in these faces .   What moved me as well was the fact that these children , some as old as 21 where given gifts . These gifts lifted their eyes and hearts .. it did not matter that it was not a Wii or Ipod .. or Reeboks .. they where so happy just to be there .. and to be with their families .. So very moving ..     So I want to say to JoAnn ( Tigger )  , Special Needs teachers and all teachers  . Bless You .. Bless You .. what an angel you are to have chosen this as your place . It know it must take courage and strentgh .. and I admire you immensely . Thank you for all you do for our Special Need Angels .   My visit with Jordan yesterday , left me in a true Christmas spirit !     Natalie

Aww Nat What a moving post this was.  I know how special those special needs teachers are..One of my friends is one.. And I have a nephew who has cerebral palsy, he is a true blessing to our family, we love him sooo much.  Thank you for sharing your step son's party with us, it is so meaningful when we realize there is more to life than the BIG gifts!   hugs

Thank you, pookie.  I really do miss the children, as you know.  My mind was not quite ready to be retired so soon.  I do try to comfort myself by knowing that I did affect a lot of kids' lives, hopefully all in a positive way. Love you!

What a nice posting!  I have a very dear friend whose son sounds quite similar to your stepson...and I can't spend 5 minutes with him without thinking what a blessing he is, to his family, his friends...everyone who comes in contact with him.  He is such a special guy, so full of unconditional love...it's amazing. .....And yes, hats off to the special people who continue to give and give and give...we are all blessed to have them in our world! Happy Holidays, Cindy

Hugs! Truly humbling to be around the true human spirit with out greed or selfishness when all it is just being with someone and loving them enjoying them for their humor etc etc....  Merry Xmas  Nat!
