Update Day 2 Post Op and Hospital Stay
Hey Lovely Virginians -
Thank you again so much for your continued love and support. I love all the messages and you all are the best. Im day 2 on the bench and if you had told me 3 or 4 weeks ago that chicken broth would be the best tasting thing ever I dont know that I would have believed you.
My mom is staying with DH Josh and I for a few days so we have lots of help. Ive managed to get out the "gas".. so that was nice... Im managaing no problems with my Isopure protein drink. Tomorrow is full liquids.. and I must say I think Im going to bond with my achieve (thanks nat!)... I can't wait!
As for how surgery went, my mom funny as she is... played paparazi (she was very excited for me and had RNY 7 years ago) a bit and was taking pictures before I got wheeld back. The nurses/docs.anestisia folks at Fairfax were wonderful and lots of fun putting me at ease. Dr E's fellow Dr Williams was so down to earth.... and he started describing how big this limb would be or how big that limb would be.... and DH asked how do you measure that... wel lthen he offered to burn a CD of the surgery (ummm wasn't sure how I initally felt about it) but dad and dh seemed to enjoy it..LOL. I have yet to watch it.. not sure I will.
Coming out of recovery no biggie, I just remember telling the nurse that there was some burning and she gave me pain meds. Then when I saw the doc, I said he installed a race track inside of me.! LOL... I feel like I could feel the different "tracks" of where things were moved.. It was funny. According to my mother I was quite punchy just after surgery due to the anestisa...
I remember all my nurses and being woekn up every 1 to 4 hours for vitals. etc etc.. then I was released to come home at around 2 or 3.
I am so lucky so far to have had an easy recovery. I am struggling just abit with being an invalid... but am learning to ask my mom and Josh (DH) for help. I am getting a little stronger each day .. and I think that helps. I am able to sleep in my bed a little in a slightly unnormal position, but comfortable... and we have a rocking chair which is my friend during the day....
Ok I think ive babbled enough....
I am doing laps around the house and sipping sipping...
Tomorrow I may get to do a brief shower... there's still debate between hubby and I about what 3 days post op is... :)
The other struggle that I am having but doing ok.. is Im starting to crave "solids" and dealing with the "normal" food that mom and DH are eating.. so they are taking to saying that the popcorn is awfull, the sandwhichs have mold and are so gross... so it hasn't been tooo bad... sort of kind of... :) HAHAHAH

Hey Girl! Glad to see you round here....
I think I attribute my strength to the walking and water aerobics I did before surgery. I didn't loose any wieght but the excercize built my stamina and did wonders for me. Also I think my stuborness and determination to have an easy recovery is helping too :) Keep us posted!
XOXO

Amanda,
You waited so long and went through so many hoops to get where you are today. You should be really proud of yourself. By solids do you mean mouth feel/chewing or swollowing? Swollowing is the issue. If you neeeeeed to chew something -- chew it, but don't swollow it, spit it out.
I'm so glad you made it to the Thinner Side.

Oh Im not chewing anything... PROMISE!
As far as solids, I noticed that when I had the chicken broth or beef broth... I had the thought, where's the bread?? I just laughed and noticed it and working on changing those thoughts as those are the ones that can send you down the deep end I imagine.
Amanda

Hey there sweet stuff !!
I am so glad you are posting . I was worried . I guess I should have gotten your last name huh .. as they just wont give me information based on .. " You know Amanda .. the pretty lady having RNY ... Fair Oaks would not give me any info .. My Bad .. but I am so glad you are here posting .. you sound great .
You are experiencing head hunger .. and the only way to beat it is to remove it from site , and get up and walk .. or do something that takes your mind off it .
I repeat .. DO NOT chew anything and spit it out . That is very dangerous, not to mention , once food enters your mouth , the digestive process begins .. even if you do not swollow . It starts your enzymes and any acid that may be in your old and new stomach to erupt .. as if preparing for food . It is also dangerous if you are at all diabetic . It begins to immediatly raise your glucose levels .. so please DO NOT put anything in your mouth just to apease your head hunger .. Like I told you .. just put on the big girl panties and whoop this thang !!! You can do it ..
I am so proud of you .. and know the transformation is starting ... What a journey you will be able to have .. so many things to look forward to .
Let me know if you need anything .

Good am Amanda - glad you are doing wonderfully! You win! Girl I wanted a shower ASAP! I broke it down & was like look here I don't "feel" good I need a shower. So, I get all ready to get in there. I got up from the Lazy Boy, hauled rear down the hall, made it to the bathroom, sat on the toilet, started getting undressed, hubs got the water going & dontcha know by the time I got ready to step in I was like yeah um I think I'm ready for a nap!!!!
But, true to my Ktity Kat style I stepped in and that was by far one of the BEST showers I've ever taken!!! YEAH! I felt like a million dollars plus having my very own hair washer to scrub a dub felt even grander then of course I just kinda stood there & let hubs do a once I mean 5 over
on me & once I was done, towel dried to perfection, had my hair brushed & me in my snow suit cause I thought that it was snowing IN the house on me I made it to the Lazy Boy again and I was
!!!!! ENJOY & ALL BEST......
