How my dr visit went...

First off, I got to have lunch, such as it was, with our friend, Michael, as I try to do each time I go for a dr visit.  He looks marvelous & who can resist that warm smile?  And ladies, ya'll need to line up for his hugs...he gives good hugs! Saw Dr. Mo yesterday.  Even though I've been very discouraged with my lack of weight loss, he was quite the opposite.  I had gained a few while in CA but had lost them by yesterday, so that was a positive thing.  He gave me my 2nd fill & boy do I notice the difference already.  Haven't stepped on the scale today but I will tomorrow. We also talked about exercise & I now find myself in a dilemma.  I bought into a one year obligation to Curves, but am not seeing any results at all, other than great fellowship.  Dr. Mo feels that their workouts are not at the level that I need.  I want to check with my local hospital about work out programs for cardiac patients.  I just don't know how to get out of my obligation to Curves.  Dr. Mo feels that a letter from my cardiologist would carry more weight (so to speak) than a letter from him, but I don't know.  What do ya'll think?  Some of you may have had a similar problem so advice would be greatly appreciated. As for the joint aches I've been having, Dr. Mo reminded me that I am still over 200 lbs & that I was having the same problems before surgery.  So obviously I still need to work on my patience skills.  I have tons of patience for everyone else but myself & I need to learn to break that tape.  Even though I've lost 30 lbs ( depending on what day it is), that's not enough to expect huge changes yet.  Patience, Annie, PATIENCE!!! I'm almost ready for Christmas day...just have a few more gifts to wrap.  Ohhhh, I almost forgot to mention...I'm getting a kitty for Xmas!!!!!  He's 6 months old, a rescue, black & white & has a bobbed tail so guess what I'm naming him?  BOB!!  Duhhh....LOL.  We hope to bring him home this weekend. I truly wish everyone a joyous, safe & happy Christmas!!!  Love to all!!!!

Hugs!
Ann

Ann- You're doing great! Patience isn't my strong suit either....I've been anxiously awaiting hitting my next major goal for awhile now and my body is doing things its own way...in it's own sweet time. I keep trying to tell myself that as long as I get there it doesn't really matter how long it takes.....it's a lifetime change anyway. SO....take that deep breath with me....we ARE successful and WILL reach our goals...in time.  Sorry to have missed lunch....maybe next time.

Morning Ann........ Sounds like all in all it was a good visit - GREAT!!!!! My personal opinion on Curves is that it is a great place to start, but be prepared to fizzle out fairly quickly.  How lonf have you had your contract with them?  How often do you go? I know they can be tough to get out of, but it would not hurt to call and ask what you would need, etc.  That was you get it done up front instead of piece by piece only to find out that you can't at all. IF you can't.....you could still use it, just go for longer than 30 minutes and when you go to the recory boards, really increase the cardio - jog in place (if you can), kickboxing kicks, fast walking in place, etc......But, remember....you are still over 200 pounds....  So, that may be something else that you can discuss with Curves....how to increase the workout (if they won't let you out of the contract). Also, you may need to supplement Curves with other things.  But...in my opinion, fitness is abiut moving on a regular basis.  It does NOT have to be a full blown out hit the gym until you die activity.  It is about finding something that you enjoy and WANT to do on a regular basis. If it's Curv es, well...GREAT!  Increase the amount of time that you do it, how often you go, and find other things to supplement. For me....I fight with mind to keep my exercise under 45 minutes.  That's my personal roadblock.  My body is saying that it needs 1 - 1 1/2 hours of activity, but my mind says no.  So, often, I miss weight work.  In fact, that is my goal for this upcoming year - to overcome that mind set. So...you may be hitting where 30 minutes isn't enough time - Curves lets you go for a longer period of time.  It's up to you. But....you've done great.  Keep up the GREAT work!

Good am Ann, glad your lunch with Michael was great! Your appt went well I see & I hope you stayed determined & the weight will keep coming off & things will get better and better. As for the Curves situation I would definitely talk with your cardio doc & even if Dr. Mo could help as well. Each Curves is owned privately (oh whatever the word) and so policies are different depending. Patience? We BOTH will sign up on the mailing list for that one. =) Happy Holidays to you and yours and enjoy Bob! Love you.....

Ann, It's good to hear you're doing so well! Lap band is a longer slower process, but those people I know who chose that procedure say they did it for the long-term maintenance issues rather than a quick weight loss.  So, it's a life style, right? My sister has been doing Curves for about 6 months.  Her approach is to do more in the 30 minutes, so instead of 1 rotation she is up to 3 rotations I think.  She also does cardio at home.  I didn't choose Curves because their operating hours are not as extensive as I want, but I've heard others say, too, that the Curves routine doesn't give them what they need and they supplement in other ways. My next kitty will have fur that doesn't shed but I won't be spending the current going rate ($4K) for that breed! Best wishes to you and your family for the coming year! Cleo

Glad to hear you got such good info at the Dr.  I am not sure what to tell you about Curves.  I had tried them before surgery so I knew it wasn't going to be a good option for me after.  I am sure you will get it figured out.  So I hope you enjoy your new kitty, I think Bob sounds like a great name.  Wish I could have gotten to see you guys the other day but hopefully we can hook up soon.

I also went to Curves and could not notice a difference.I actually sprained my ankle (not at Curves). After a lot of hastle ( I mean ALOT), with a drs note, they let me out of the contract. Good luck.

As always, all ya'lls replies were supportive, uplifting, encouraging & loving.  Oh, can't forget helpful. Some of you mentioned increasing my time at Curves or doing more rotations.  The lady that owns this one is very strict (in a nice way) & will not allow more than 30 minutes or more than 2 rotations.  I have a real problem with that because I figure if I'm paying for it, why would she care how much or how long?  Hey, maybe that's the way to get out of it...just keep breaking the rules!!! LOL  **** her off enough & she won't want me back!  I did notice a big difference in how different centers are run.  The one in CA was much more laid back & they had more workout equipment too.  So I think I'll have to sit down with Miss Brenda & have a chat.  She knows about my cardiac stuff & is always concerned that I'll get zapped so maybe  a letter from my cardiologist WILL do the trick.  Ironically enough, I got a flyer in the mail today from Winchester Medical Center outlining ALL the workout programs they have available & there are several geared to cardiac patients like me.  They even have personal trainers...how cool would THAT be? So I'm going to persue this issue to the end.  Thank you all so much for your input!!!

Hugs!
