Hi all and Happy Holidays!!  I had RNY 10-31-2007 and the smell of food and the thoughts of eating anything with texture are just too overwhelming/yucky.  Am I crazy?  It is amazing how little food appeals to me now.  Anyone experience the same?  If so for how long?  Thanks for the info! Cindy

Cindy, this is pretty normal for most people, especially this early out from surgery.  It may get better it may not.  Usually after a few months when the nerves etc heal it does get better.  Some people just always have an aversion to food and pretty much just eat on schedule to stay on track and provide their body what it needs to live.  Just keep plugging through!

Thank you Courtney for the reassurance.  Sometimes it helps ease those feelings for craziness and confusion  just to see it in writing!  I have seen you posts on the board for a while, you are a very positive person with helpful input!  Thanks again!  Cindy

Hi, Cindy!  You are not crazy, unless I am too!  Oh, wait a minute.....................Oh well! This sounds very normal to me.  Smells and the thoughts of food were very intense early on.  It will get better!  Just give it a coule of months! Happy Holidays to you, too!! JoAnn

I am two years out this coming Jan 26, but still have smell aversion to several things. The worst part is n ot knowing when the aversion is going to hit. I have ordered fgood in a restaurant, or prepared something at home that I thought was what I wanted...until I smelled it. This usually involves only meats and eggs. If my nose and stomach tell me not to eat it I do not. There are so many things that I can always eat, like yogurt or protein drinks, that I do not worry about it, other than having to apologize for ordering soemthing and then not eating it. As Court said, just make youself a schedule. I am envious, though. I wish I had to make a schedule. I have to push myself to get in enough exercise to keep the weight from creeping up. Good luck and God bless, Lois
