I started some new meds in June and sadly I have since gained 25 pounds.  I have been struggling already with the fact I only lost 50 in 2 years but now to have gained this much   I went to the doc and I told her I quit taking it!  I am hoping to have my TT early this coming year and then get into exercising more!   Any suggestions?

Is it ok for you to get off of the meds?  I mean, if you need them................ How long did it take for you to gain the 25 pounds?  Looks like 6 months.  Are you sure that it is 100% the meds?  Are you using your tool the way you are suppose too?  Getting in your protein?  Water?  Exercise on a regular basis? Limiting carbs (that's where you really need to look at)?

But, my question is why are you moving forward with plastics when you aren't near your goal weight and experiencing such a high weight gain in 6 months time?  Have you been maintaining your weight for a year now?  How do you think your plastics will be impacted if you have further weight loss? Does your plastic surgeon even know this? I just went through plastics (7 weeks ago), after maintaing my weight for almost a year, and I am SO glad that I waited.  I spent 10 months preparing for it and my result show it.  I treated it like a marathon - I would not just show up having not run at all.  I made sure that I was physically active on a consistent basis, and got my nutrition/vitamins in check.  And because of it, my results are awesome, my recovering was FANTASTIC (even my doc was pleasantly surprised) and I am now back to being physically active.  I needed very few pain meds during recovery, as well.  Yes...abs are still a little sore, but that changes daily. I am now going back into "training" mode for the inner thigh lift in October (plus the Rock 'n Roll 1/2 Marathon at the end of August).  But, I've already told the personal trainer that this is the next obstacle and I want the same results....as good as I can possibly get. I have to say...if you want good results...you should be exercising before your TT, not afterwards.  If you are not into it now, you probably won't be into it afterwards. I really hope that this does not come off brash, because that is not my intention.

Good luck .....

Jill has this very well written and very informing .  It sounds like to me Casey you really need to re-evaluate your diet and exercise program . If you are not at goal , it is more than likely that if you did get a TT .. you would not be stable enough to keep the weight off , and enjoy the results .  I like Jill , did not even think of my plastic journey until I was 2.5 years out . I have maintained my weight for almost 4 years now .  My concern here is that you had a revision and are only at a 50 pound loss . Have you gone back to your surgeon or your nut to see what the issues are ? You should have lost more than this by now . If it is the medication , I would seriously talk to your doctor about this side effect and see if there is an alternative medication for you .  I would before any thought of plastic surgery , get your weight off , maintain it .. and then start your plastic journey . I would hate to see you waste money or not get the desired results you want from the plastics . Weight loss surgery is hard work , but is so worth it .  Get back to your surgeon .. re-evaluate .. and see what happens .  Best wishes to you  .  Natalie

Casey, regain stinks.  Here is my suggestions.  First, if the meds are something you need, research and see if there is an alternative that doesn't have weight gain side affects and see if that is an option for you.  Second, go back to the basics.  Up your water, down your food intake (measure out portions if you have too), focus on protein, fruits & veggies, cut out the bad carbs, go back to protein shakes for snacks.  Break it down to several small meals/snacks a day instead of 3 big meals.  Work on the exercise.  Make sure you are getting all your vitamins in.  It will be hard work but you can do it!!!!!

Casey, I have to agree with Jill and Natalie - you do not want to get our tummy tuck done THEN get into exercising mode otherwise you could end up just throwing your money away. Most surgeons wil not do a tummy tuc****il your weight is stable - I recently had a lower body lift but was 18  months out and very stable in my weright... Also I would investigate the med situation and see if there are alternatives - stopping totally may not be the best idea for you.... Also get back to basics for your diet. I would suggest you visit a nutritionist and tell her truthfuy what you are eating - take some samples of a few days worth of eating and get her to evaluate it for you. Drink planty of fluids and make sure you take all of your vitamins and get at least 60g of protein in per day if you have not been taking protein.... and you really need to exercise NOW not wait until later - even walking will help you. This surgery is a tool but if you do not use it correctly you may as well not have it... Once you have fully evaluated your situation you may be in a better position to seek help because you wil have some documented facts to take with you. I know for myself that carbs are not my best friend and I have to watch to make sure I eat complex carbs ands stay away from the simple bad carbs - but if you do a lot of exercise you need more carbs so it may be a case of evaluating what you are eating..... then adjusting how you eat. A nutritionist can help you do this.. Good luck! JAckie

I cant see my surgeon again as we (being military) have moved into another state.  He's in Indiana and I am in Virginia.  I saw the plastic surgeon because of the amount of skin I have hanging.  It puts so much pressure on my bladder it causes wonderful leaks.  He feels for my tummy I would benefit from it but to wait for my arms and thigh lifts till I have all the weight loss.  I have a nice waist line that you dont notice because of the skin in front.  That is where I carried most of my weight.  Like I was 9 months pregnant.   I have seen my regular doc and she changed my meds.  I can already tell a differance so the new journey begins.   Thanks for the replies.  I will work on my water intake, and protein intake!

Just because you are military does not elimiate your ability to see a bariactric doc.  Portsmouth Naval has one of the best facilities in the area.  I would ask your PCM for a referral to go and see them for follow-up care.  Or see if you can go to a local bariatric surgeon under Tricare for your follow-up.

Dr. Clark accepts Tricare and is WONDERFUL.  Plus, he is right here in Newport News.  Contact his office to see what you would need to do to go in and see him and/or his nutritionist. The bottom line is that you need to get your situation back on track before you consider any plastic surgery.  I'm not sure if Tricare will even cover it until your weight has stabilzed or near goal.  And if you are having issues, Tricare may consider paying for it in the future.

I asked and they put in a referral but portsmyth never called.  So I will try to call and leave a message up there again.  Tri-care isnt paying for any of my plastics.   I will call Portsmyth today and leave another message.

If you are only looking for a TT instead of a lower body lift, and have documentation of all of the problems you have, Tricare will consider paying for your TT.  Another member of this board just got approved for the TT from Tricare, but opted for the LBL instead. BUT...they will want you to be as close to your goal weight as possible and have maintained your weight....like any good surgeon....... Definately call Portsmouth.
