Hello everyone! My name is Lisa and I have been reading this message board for a few months now. I just realized that there was a Virginia Forum. I am glad because I have my first appointment with the bariatric clinic at Portsmouth Naval Hospital so some of you are local. I am very excited, and I love all the information you all share. I hope in time I will meet some of you. I know this message board will be a lifeline for me. I can't wait to get started on my journey, and you all have helped me to take off my rose colored glasses and understand that this is something not to be entered into lightly. Thanks to you all. If I might ask, for those who have had their WLS at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, how was your experience? Also, I would like to ask what could be found in the initial bloodwork that might delay my surgery date. Thanks again and you are are an inspiration!! Lisa

Lisa !! Welcome to the Va Boards. There is a wealth of information here .Please use us . There is no question that should not be asked . As to your blood work ? ?There are so many varibles and only your surgeon would have his own needs . Things like your blood pressure .. your sugar .. is hard to say . Thank you, Tink (great name!). I know my triglycerides are not good, I guess I will find out tomorrow. I am so looking forward to roller coasters that don't hurt and airline seats that don't bruise!!

Glad you found us Lisa! There are many of us who are local. We often have get togethers at local restaurants. (appetizer portions are my friend!!) Keep a look out for postings and join us! The care you will receive at PNH is fabulous. You will go from recovery to the step down ICU where you will spend roughly 24 hours. Then its up to the 4th fl where you will be in the bariatric ward. I had my surgery at PNH in June 2007. Once of the things they looked for in the bloodwork was to see if you test postive for H Pylori. A bacteria in your stomach. I tested positive and took antibiotics. They check your protein levels too. Again, welcome to our little family. Enjoy the journey
