Bad news...

Hello to all my new friends, It doesnt look like I will be having the WLS after all, as the risk has tripled because of nissen (sp?) which is exactly where the bypass would be.  On top of that, my blood work came back that I am severely anemic so they are going in search of a bleed somewhere.  I had complications a few years back during the nissen/gallbladder procedure that ended me up in the hospital for a while.  Looks like that is coming back to haunt me.  I just pray it isn't anything as bad as colon cancer, although the DR. didnt rule that out.  So I guess we will see where we are after the CT scan, endoscopy and colonoscopy.  Wish me luck and send a few prayers my way, that it isn't serious.  I am a little scared.  BTW, has anyone on this board had WLS with a nissen?  The Dr. didn't rule out the WLS completely, but risks are much higher and time in the hospital could be alot longer.  My husband pretty much vetoed it after he heard that.  If anyone has any experience here with any of these issues I have run into, could you give me a little insight?  Thanks a bunch...Lisa

Im very sorry that this has at the least delayed your surgery. I can imagne how hard it must be to look forward to something and then have it taken from you. Esp when you now have to worry about other problems you may have that are serious. I will tell you this much. It's an AWESOME thing that they do the test's that they do to insure the safest possible surgery for you. If they hadnt have found these things it would be terrible to go into the surgery blinded and the result could be horrific! Thank god that they found these things, pray they arent life threatening and then maybe you can look further into the WLS after the other problems are taken care of. I had high liver enzymes and was worried they would find something really wrong with my liver because my sister has a liver condition but thankfully they didnt. However if they had of, at least I would have known that it wasnt meant to be, at least at the time. Keep us posted and good luck. In my prayers Brandi~

I agree with Brandi. Thank god the Dr.'s are so very thorough. I don't know what a nissen is. I will say prayers for you. Please keep us informed of what is happening.

Thank you and good point about the thorough screening.  It would have been a big ole mess if they hadn't found all this in advance.  A Nissen Fundoplication is a surgery for severe GERD or hiatal hernia.  Its elective and I wish I had not done it, as it didn't work for me, but who knew I would have a bile leak from the gallbladder removal.  I seem to keep falling into that 1 percentile of complications, LOL.  I guess I have to laugh, and shake my head, when it rains it pours.

Hi Lisa - I am sorry the news isn't what you wanted to hear however, I am very glad as well for the tests they do pre-op & there are even more since I had WLS nearly 5 years ago. I was severly anemic and still am to a degree which stems from a serious medical condition I had & recently had surgery to try & correct. Thus far things are progressing nicely. I am sending prayers your way that the bleed is found, that your upcoming tests are indicators of issues that are fixable and hopefully ruling out anything major. I surely hope you find like cased folks who can help you through this. Take care.....

Thanks, I am going to take the iron and hopefully the CT scan will show something.  I am glad things are progressing well for you in your situation.  I may be overreacting, it could be a simple fix.  I was so bummed about the WLS.  I will keep checking in with you guys to see all your milestones.  Thanks for all the prayers and good luck to you all in your journeys ahead. Lisa - don't lose hope. I know its a downer right now but God has a plan for us all. Go ahead with the tests & results & once issue by issue is eliminated things will start looking up. Please keep us posted & thanks for your kind words.

Like Kat said--please don't give up hope. Her mom has been trying to get the surgery for a while. This may just be a setback. Jen

Yes..god works in mysterious but purposfull ways sometimes. Sometimes you cant figure out the reason but you just have to put your faith in him that he knows what he's doing. This is a set back but it doesnt have to be the end. It's always possible that the test results will show less of a problem then your fearing and if the docotor hasnt ruled out the possiblity of wls..then you shouldnt either. He knows what he is doing and he wouldnt put his record or his career on the line as a doctor with a good rep and stats if he sincerly thought there would be complications! Good luck

Im sorry about all of the set backs you have in front of you, but not sorry they have found the problem and now like the others have said they can take care of it and then move forward onto the next towards your WLS never give up on a dream you have for yourself unless the DR's have told you that it is something that is to dangerous for your health work at the problems one by one and go from there, I see you back here in a few months after things quiet down for you tellin us your getting ready for the WLS so prayers are going up for you and we are here for you for whatever you may need we will be here for you. Hang in there and be strong and hang tough. God is on your side.
