Stricture
Well, I'm glad to say that I found a reason as to why my diet wasn't progressing. I ended up having a stricture. Has anyone else had this? I ended up paging my doctor over the New Year since I couldn't hold anything down for two days, not even water. Yesterday, I had an upper endoscopy done with a balloon dilation. The bottom of my pouch was literally a pinhole and they dilated it to about 10mm. I'm a bit nervous about having to get that procedure done again, since the gastroenterologist said that most people need more than one dilation to keep their stomach openings adequate.
Any advice from someone who's had a stricture?
Today, I was able to eat a piece of fat free cheese and I've been drinking okay, which is a big relief.
Also, has anyone else had problems with a rash around their mouth from vomiting? I've got a horrible red rash around my mouth that makes me look like a clown. It's very painful and oozy. So far, everyone I've asked has said to put A&D ointment on it. I've left a message for my dermatologist, but no return call yet. It's bad enough that I was sick, but it's even worse to have a big Bozo mouth afterwards.
Thanks for all the suggestions on my last post. Happy New Year!

Good am - I've had 2 strictures both within weeks of each other. Mine were both at just over 1 year post-op which is rare. Yes, it is a fact that most need more than one dilation (as with my case as well). I would suggest you continue to pay close attention to your body & if you should starting feeling like things are real heavy going down again, you cannot keep them down & any burning/discomfort please call & be seen again. Take it easy with the eating & drinking for a few days because sometimes it can irritate your opening to your pouch.
As for the rash you might try Neosporin to heal up the open wounds. Once that has happened you might try Eucerin cream. Its non-irritating to the face and body & is even used on preemie babies for dry/sensitive skin.
I wish you the best & hope you continue to feel better.

Glad that you found out what was wrong. Kat pretty much said everything (since she has been through it) that I have heard, easy foods for a few days, watch for signs of closure again. I agree that an ointment would probably be best on your rash or maybe even vaseline. Hope you are feeling better soon.
I have a stricture...My first dilation was at 6 weeks post op and then I had another dilation on Dec. 10. I also have an ulcer at the same site as the stricture so, they can't dilate to where it needs to be until the ulcer is healed.
As far as the stricture goes, take it easy...if they only dilated to 10mm they WILL have to go back in because they usually like to have it at least 16 to 18 mm open in order for you to be comfortable eating. Just know that if you eat too fast or too much it will most likely come back up so be prepared.
Hang in there...it will get better!
