I am pretty new around here:)  SO  I guess a short intro will do I am 1 week shy of 32 .  I am a wife and mother of two (adorable) MONSTERS.  I am a diabetic with high blood pressure and cholesterol problems.  I guess that can pretty much wrap it up in a nut shell.   Tomorrow is the day that I call to schedule my preop apt.  I dont understand why I am so nervous.  I am assuming knowing that once I go to this apt I will get my definite yes or no.  I am being seen at Portsmouth Naval.  I am so scared to have done all of this to be disapointed and to be told no my because nutritionist' or phsycologist said no.  I know things are fine withthe nutritionist she said she was going to refer me and the surgeon seemed upbeat when I saw him but the wacky doc did not say one way or the other.  ALso knowing that everythingis coming so soon.  It was easy when everything was still so far out.  I am anxious.  I have been drinking my water the way I would after the fact.  I have been chewing my food and taking my time eating.   I guess in better words....................I AM NERVOUS

Nervous .. yes .. it is very normal . But it will soon pass . Keeping yourself busy will help too .  I am a firm beliver if you want this bad enough , you will get it . You must keep your thoughts positive. It is easy to let the negitive get you .. but donot let it .  I will tell you after almost 4 years , this is harder than any diet you will ever try . This is a lifestyle that one must be ready for . It sounds like to me that you are ready .. you just need to encourage yourself to believe .  It is good to see you here . There are a few beautiful ladies from the Portsmouth Naval program . I am sure they will be able to answer questions for you if you have them about the program .  Best wishes to you . Keep us posted on your journey !  Let's welcome you real soon to the loosers bench !!  Tink

There would be something wrong with you if you were not nervous!! This is a big life altering decision that you are making - but many of us will tell you it is the best decision we have ever made. I do not know how it works at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital as I did not have surgery there but the phsychologist would probably have told you if she was concerned - I think. There are many people here who had their surgery in the same place as you and can give you a lot of advice....... and good luck scheduling your appointment Jackie

I think they are kind running behind up there after the holiday break. Or maybe I was just under the impression that I would have got a date sonner ( not the date sooner but the info on the date sooner ). I had my last appointment ( psy ) a week ago last friday, so I waited 2 business days and called on Wed but I havent heard anything yet. I really want to know so I can count down the days. Im a HUGE procrastinator and I have a friend coming in to help while Im in the hospital from NC and I need to give her adiqate notice :) I guess we'll know when we know...I know it;s coming...and that should be enough. I too am nervous, I have been for about a month...but Ive made my decision to go through with this surgery and that's what Im going to do!!! Keep us posted...you never know...we could be up there at the same time :) Brandi~

I have been calling this morning with no luck.  I left a message and no luck with a call back.   I understand with just wanting a date.  My son is having surgery on the 4th and my husband will be deploying soon.  My sister in law will be coming to stay with me but with no date I dont know when to tell her to come.  It would be neat for us to share a room.  Nice when you have actually talkedto someone b4 hand then a total stranger.  I am pretty out going so I usually am the one to break the ice.  I will update to let you know if I get a date and please do the same.

Good am & welcome to the board! Its very common to be nervous and worry as well. Its a life changing decision and not to be entered into lightly. Often times we sike ourselves out especially about the unknowns & we gotta give things over to God and let Him take control. Arm yourself with knowledge, move forward with your pre-op appointment and have faith things will come together. Take things step by step and remember we are here for ya. All best.......

Welcome to the board.  I had my Lap RNY done at Portsmouth Naval 4 weeks ago and have had no problems. Your in good hands with either Dr Mann or Dr Catania. I had my 1 month followup last Friday and saw that they are a bit behind due to the Holidays. If you ever have any questions about the procedure at Portsmouth, please feel free to ask me. Good luck and don't worry about the surgery.

Nervous is definitely normal.  The closer we seem to get tot he official yes or no & to our surgery dates, the more the nerves seem to set in.  Change is always a scary thing for me.  Hopefully you have done all your tests honestly and have done your research about surgery and everything involved.  If you don't get approved then just keep fighting for your health.  Keep us updated on what happens.
