Looking for a change
Hi, I'm new to this board and I actually need some advice from my fellow Virginianians. I'm a lap bander who is seeking a revision to RNY, my insurance co. has denied me and my surgeon has since moved to Montana, so I'm working with another physcian in the practice(Commomweath Surgeons) to get approval from the insurance, but the current doctor seems to be dragging his feet when it comes to my case and I'm really ready to get things moving. So, my question to you all, can suggest a good doctor and office staff in the Richmond area who does revisions and willing to work with you when it comes to the insurance co. needing an approval. Welcome Tonya to the VA Board and best of luck with your revision I had open RNY in 2005 and have lost 173 pounds and feel great. I didnt use the DR's there in Richmond but I would say DR Hutcher is highly recommended there hes well known and his group is in Richmond. But there may be others who will post other DR's I met w/ DR Hutcher before making my choice in my home town and I dont think you would go wrong. Great to see you here and we will be following your journey keep us posted.

Thanks for responding to me, I've heard wonderful things about Dr. Hutcher, but he only does his procedures open and I would prefer to have it done laparoscopic if all possible. Also Dr. Hutcher does not perform lap band and I would feel very uneasy with him taking it out. Thanks for your advice.

I had Dr.Hutcher , and I love him . I wanted the open as he also gives you the stalistic band . This band is fitted around your stoma and is an added feature that keeps you fuller longer . I am almost 4 years out and no weight gain . I know you stated you did not want open , but the scar is very small . And as to his knowledge about revisions. He is one of the top rated Drs in the Country and if I were looking into a revision from Lap it would be him .

If you are still not sure about this office , you can contact the Bariatric Group at MCV . They have awsome doctors there to .
I am very partial to Dr. Hutcher . He is world known , and has many years of practice at WLS . Not only did he do my surgery , but he repaired a very large hernia . In April he repaired another and did a Tummy Tuck with Mons lift . He did a beautiful job .

Good am Tonya - welcome to the VA Board! I too had Dr. Martin (I SO MISS HER!) & she is wonderful. I am sorry to hear the insurance company denied you but do not give up. I am aware of the other surgeons in the practice. I would suggest you meet with the ones you feel might be what you are looking for and go from there. Others might suggest the MCV group as well. I am not well versed on them. I wish you the best & keep us posted.
