Feeling full

For the past week and half I have noticed that I am not feeling the "full" mar****il I'm over full then I usually sit in pain or have to go make myself vomit. I thought ok..maybe Im just eating way to much,so I started measuring agian..but it still seems to happen. I feel I have lost that power of saying ok.."I'm Full" It worries me because overeating was a BIG issue with me before and I'm not sure if I am mentally doing it agian . I have been dealing with depression for some time so this can be a all in one roll to it. Now what I wonder is I did alot of grazing over the holidays (I know BAD me),and had things I should of stayed away from (that dam cheesecake),could this have caused me to just not know when I am full? like I was always keeping food in me...not meal planning.  I see alot about that 5 day pouch test but not sure if that's going to help, but plan on trying that out.

Hey Naomi, long time no hear-- I have the same grazing problem and have to pay close attention to the nature of what I eat.  Carbs are my enemy unless I am hiking.  It is really a head thing.  I always found having some diet drink helped satisfy most any craving.  You have to wait a little while to let the fizz subside and then you have to drink it so slowly, that it slows you down and helps delay that craving.  The sweetness of it helps me, still, get over craving NAS candy. If you do overeat, get out the papaya enzyme. Also of help to me is when the urge to graze hits, walk around the block, walk to your mail box ANYWHERE will help get you away from the food. Good luck, Lois

I hear you on the carbs..I think thats where I am having a downfall.I mean I'm not gorging on them but still I am eating the wrong ones. I have papya enzyme and all those do is help me vomit..I mean it's a help either way..lol I try to walk when thing**** me but dealing with some back issues for some time now it's been a pain to do anything,I think I am going to make an appointment today with my dr cause I am so tired all the time I live in my pj's. What type of "diet" drink do you use? Now that you mentioned drink I wonder if I am having some of this because I really have been not taking my protein drinks in much latley.

Naomi.  You can try the 5 Day pouch test , .but I am telling you your pouch is what it is .. It would take you to slam in Whopper after Whopper to stretch it . Trust me here . I would spend the time and effort you would do in doing this in looking at what is triggering your overeating .  So many things to consider when it comes to our new stomachs.  1. Are you drinking while you eat ?  2. How long did you stop drinking before you ate .  3. If you are not getting in your protein .. you will not stay " full "  5. What kind of foods are you putting in that causes the full feeling . Our pouches start out about as big as an egg , holding one or 2 ounces . It then after about a year is up to 4 ounces . And should remain at 4 ounces for a long time . Long enough for you to get the weight off .  Are taking time to really enjoy your food ? Are you chewing enough allowing for proper break down of the food . Remember disgestion begins with chewing .  I would say if it where me .. to not do the pouch test .. as I stated above .. it is what it is ..  I would do some behavior modefications , go back to the first days of your journey .. and keep in mind that Protein and Water is going to be the key to keeping you full and satisfied . Everything else is grazing .. and if you sit down and look at what triggers that , you can get a hold of that too .  Let me know if I can help you further .  Natalie

I had my doubts on that 5 day test..but thought maybe it would just help trigger my mind.. As far as triggering my eating..I KNOW it plays into my depression..and most of it is because I can not do as much as I used to because of these back issues.I been playing the whole dr game for months now.BOREDOM.. 1..I NEVER drink while eating..makes me sick.. 2..about a half hr on some occasions it can be as short as 15 mins 3..I know..I need to get back on the ball with the protein 4..oops no 4..lol 5..It's all foods..last night I had grilled chicken and about a tablespoon of rice..actually this am I had oatmeal..which is my norm for breakfast..that too seem to sit like a ton of bricks like I overate..but it was the same amount I have been doing for some time. Do you find diffrent times of the day that you can eat more in one sitting then in another..for example..I find around lunch time I can hold more..dinner time I eat very little..just thought this was weird. I chew chew chew..as far as taking enough time..I sometimes wonder if I am eating quicker..about 15 mins a meal now..maybe I should slow it down more. PS:I saw the one day pass you guys are offering for the conference..I think I just may do that..

A lot of people notice a change in their "full" feeling at about a year out.  My dr & nut told me that at about a year out we should be able to eat between 1/2 & 1 cup of foods depending on the density of it.  You are already catching yourself by noting that there could be a problem.  Going back to measuring is a good idea.  If you have been grazing (me too!!!!) the best idea is to get back on your "schedule" making sure to include all of your protein & water.  Your body should adjust and get back on track.  As for the depression, it could definitely be contributing to your urges & affecting other areas of your life.  A dr. appointment might not a bad idea.  Keep us updates & remember we are here for you.

Protein--I use many.   At work I use Syntrax Nectar Fuzzy Navel since they stopped making Tealicious.   At home I make a tall iced coffee with vanilla protein (Designer Whey, Labrada, GNC's Optimum, or 100%, Whey Vanilla), Half and Half and Splenda, 99% of the time. At night, when coffee is too much, I have milk with Syntrax Matrix Chocolate. My favorite diet soft drink is Diet Sunkist by FAR.  After that pepsi Max, Diet Pepsi, Vault Zero.  I always have to wait for the fizz to subside somewhat, and sip slowly. Lois

Hey Naomi, You have received a lot of great suggestions and reminders by our counterparts, but here's something that I remind myself about. Do you eat meals that are at least 1/2 protein? Doing so should help you stay more full. I eat about a cup 13 months out. I picture a salad plate in my head containing about 1 cup of food total. 1/2 of that 8 oz. on the plate is protein (4 oz)., the other 1/4 cup 2 oz. is a veggie or fruit and the other 2 oz. is a carb. I usually always eat protein for a snack, lowfat cheese, beef jerkey, yogert  skim milk or a protein drink with 20 g's of protein or more. Before you have finished your meal do you pay attention to what your body is telling you? Do you hick-up or yawn or burp? These things I have learned to understand as signs that it's time to stop, I'm full!! Also, so often we confuse hungar for thurst. As long as I am 1/2 hour to 45 minutes past my meal I try to drink as much calorie free fluids as possible. I don't do soda's any more. I notice that when I do get my necessary fluids in, I feel so much better and I loose weight much more easily. It's not easy though always getting in all of the liquids that we should have!! I'm not immune from snacking a bit either, especially around the holidays, but I have really tried not to let it become a habit and I get in extra exercise to burn off those few bites of birthday cake that I would have pined over if I didn't indulge a little bit.  I guess the key to that is just a little bit and be done, don't keep it around so you can't go back!! I hope this is helpful. I'm not an expert but it works for me! I never want to go back to where I was.  McLean
