Since Slim•Fast shakes contain milk, there is naturally occurring sodium in the product from this ingredient Other ingredients, such as sodium caseinate (a source of protein), sodium citrate and sodium phosphate (both used as stabilizers) contribute to the sodium content also Medical experts recommend an intake of less than 2,400 mg of sodium daily for healthy individuals - it is important to look at an entire day's intake of sodium as well as single items (for example, on the Slim•Fast plan, you have two Slim•Fast meals per day as meal replacements - each has approximately 200-450 milligrams of sodium - which allows you to have your remaining recommended amount (1,950-2200 mg) of sodium in snacks and your evening meal) When looking at the Slim•Fast plan across a day, the daily total for sodium falls within the recommended guidelines for individuals in good health
